And hopefully, it will be your last crash! Protective gear is good, not falling off is better. Glad you are alright and your mount not much damaged

The best way to learn is having a close call, and realising how much damage etc... could of been?

Whew, lucky stuff then!! Is good your OK!! Pants, the great evil of motorcycling... Never mind, suppose they set us apart from the rest of the four wheeled world!
There might be beginning to be a market for kinetic GF170 parts, with you and zeroindex owning them, and leaving the tender marks of your ownership!!

I doubt there are any bikers around who haven't had an "off" and if there are it's probably because they have never pushed the limits far enough.

I had a little one the other day, really stupid but I think it's good to meet the hard ground every now and then it keeps your mind in perspective!

"shit it hurts" though, every time!

You get right out of practice at that as you get older! It's amazing just what gets bent! but thats biking! Cheers John.

lol, i had to scroll up to get 'exactly' what you meant..... Hey FreeRider, glad you're not to badly off... how do you find riding the GF170? I've had mine for a month, and I'm ready for an upgrade..... :p one thing i noticed, the bar ends are weighted, and for a very good reason too... the steering feels TOO light without them in... I need to still get some new ones.

Should get a steering damper too, just in case the turbo kicks in at exactly the wrong moment!!

Free Rider: Watch out for if your rear tube ever decides to go... it hurts a fair bit... ah, and the other tip, if you're gonna bin, land on the grass... it hurts less, and there is less damage to the bike...

There are plenty of us around and contrary to popular opinion, it is possible to NOT crash a motorcycle.

Of course the reason is not pushing the limit *far enough*. I'd label that self-restraint.

It'll happen one day. Whether its a fault of yours or not:thud:

Uh, if you "push the limits" so far that you crash, then you've pushed them too far.

The idea is to ride them, not fall off them. Crashing is always uber uncool. And as Mr Devil says, it's NOT obligatory.

Yeah, I accept the not my fault one, but I do everything I can to make sure it's not me forking up.

...but it's such a good learning experience :D

hmmm learning.. id rather learn to stay on the bike than learn how much it hurts coming off it.

havent experienced an off on the road yet, and dont intend on it..

my 2 have caused an untold amount of learning curve... 1st one (rider fault): not leaning enough / not thinking i would get around a corner, so i just straightened out, hit the brakes, went on the grass and hit a bump, and fell off... 2nd one (bike fault): back tube tyre blew, managed to keep out of the oncoming traffic lane, fell off bike, went in an ambulance to hospital.

Moral of the story: 1). Lean more...
2). Buy good gear, don't think you'll get away with track pants even if you're just going to fill up with gas. Trust your bike, but don't expect it to be indestructable / there's nothing special about hospitals or ambulance rides...

I don't dispute your idealistic attitude but will it still be intact after 52yrs of motorcycling?
I have had 3 serious (bike and body bending) "offs" in that time and I am quite sure that if I don't pay attention they wont be the last.
Good luck with your quest to maintain a "perfect" record. There is still along way to go! (Nice bike in your pic by the way).
I make a habit of never looking down on people who "off", unless it is to help pick them up! :moon: Cheers John.

Mine's still intact after 40 years. Not to say that I may not break it at any time. Sometimes shit happens no matter how careful you are. Just don't agree that crashes are inevitable. Go long enough and the odds start to mount up, but not inevitable.

I certainly dont look down on people who have an off (Unless they were doing dumb shit!) but I do have an issue with people who take it upon themselves to convince people, particularly noobies, that they're going to crash, especially while learning. (Not pointing at anyone here).

Cant ignore that sometimes shit happens, but I dont consider it inevitable.

Is that what you thought when you read my post?

I thought I was just offering a bit of encouragement to some one who had had a bit of misfortune!

OK, I guess if you are not careful, words get in the way too. Never too old to learn, are we! :hitcher: Cheers John.

Yeah rite!! :bs: you missed out half the story. What about the bit when u said to me watch this dad. You went around the block and came flying pass the house well over the 50k speed limit. Also it had just rained and as i saw you fly pass the house my heart skipped a couple of beats. I turned to your mother and said hes going to crash! on the next corner and rushed out to see.
Unfortunitly i was right and boy you gave me a fright. So hopefully lesson learnt.(dont show off :thud: ,dont speed, slow down on wet roads and dont brake in the middle of a corner ) mmm i fell like ive told u all this heaps of times :brick:

ps Hope i hav'nt embarrassed you to much .lol

I mentioned I wasn't pointing at anyone here. Just the whole expecting to crash thing that usually comes along with the topic.

Dear god, a disagreement on KB that hasn't turned to shit. Glad there's some maturity around here for once! :2thumbsup
