Just wondering if anyone who is in the know or owners of the K1 and K2 thou's could share a bit of info with me.....
I am wanting to know what things you like and dislike about them and are there any known common problems with these models?
Also do you know what differences (engine wise) there are between the K1, K2 and the K3, K4?
Thanks!. :niceone:

I've just got one, and its awesome. I love it.
Are you thinking of one?
Lots of power.....140+hp at the wheel of a K1 and with pipe etc 150+ is easy to achieve.
As far as I have worked out they're pretty bullet proof as was proven by all the race wins and rave reviews in the motoring press.
Try searching www.gixxer.com and www.gsxr.com for info.
Heres a review http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_0106_gsxr1000/
and for some specs etc check out my site www.simjen.com
Wheelies are the best bit :)

I'll have a read of those links you posted soon.
Yes I am thinking of getting one, I haven't taken a K1 or K2 for a good ride but yeah, really looking forward to taking one out soonish.

gsx-r 1000k1-k2 the first of the 1k, got a cult following after this bike was made. tons of parts, awsome bike, i think some of these floating around are a little over priced now, due mabye the cult following.
the k3-k4 are simlar bikes, styling changes, and tweaks over the k1/k2 model.
Okay the bike, the k3-k4 came with radial capilters, the k3 with single pad per pision is the best, the k1-k2 have 6 pots.
I haven't really riden a k1-k2 for a good distance so can't say to much
but wife as a k4 1000. Awsome bike, tourqe is amazing, and just monsters away in every gear, i mean the gsxr1000 pretty much put simlar hp/tourque as a busa does now days, which is pretty insane if you think about it.
Pretty much Fish - all the bikes you are thinking about, just get which ever one gives you the biggest hardon cause thats all its really about, since they are simlar, all have out standing points, few bad points, but you get that with everything. All that really matters is that you love way it looks. cause anything other than it just extra.

Not much difference powerwise between k1-k4 within sort of 5-10hp I think.
But the torque is unreal, my GSXR600 definately felt massively underpowered in comparison.
Roll on in 6th is comparable to roll on at 3rd on the 600.....if not more powerful.
Its also real good fun away from the lights with easy off the throttle wheelies in the first three gears :)

Sounds good!. First 3 gears on the throttle eh!. Very nice!. With standard sized sprockets?

yeah man, mostly third pops up with a small bump in the road. If you gave it a tug it would easily come up without. I've got a heap of old mag reviews of the launch etc, Im gonna scan them one of the days and post them on my site. At the time the K1 was bike of the year, and is still regarded by many mags as having the best midrange stomp of all 1000cc bikes even to this day.

I suppose it would be handy, you can get them tho. Seen them in a UK mag, but costly.

The K1 -2 are stonking bikes, but it is really worth that extra coin to get the K3-4, not any major differnce in power, but the brakes are tons better on the latter, handling as well is little improved, but in saying that your normal average rider would never have an issue with either of these, the K3-4 still looks great i reckon, the K1-2 is getting dated, but holy shit can you get them at a good price and that alone os a good enough reason to get em. Both bikes are bullet proof (to most people) and they're gonna do everything you could ever want.
Stock gearing is a little boring and too tall, drop a tooth off the front at least to liven the bike up a bit, the K3 with a 16T on would launch the front effortlessy at 140kph on 3rd gear on the power, i went even further and dropped 2 up front and went up 3 at the back, roughly going 10 up on the rear, 1st gear is a bit stupid now lol, but the rest, fuck yeah.
If you want to take my K3 for a squirt at some stage gimme a holla and will see what we can sus out.

Just bounce the thing off the limiter on the downshift, sounds the bizzo, flames look cool, the engine can handle it, don't blame me if you blow it up though

I have taken the K5 for a good thrash which I enjoyed but a bit too much coin for me at the moment. I haven't taken any of the earlier models for a good ride but will be keen as beans very soon!.

Mate, agree with cajun. Especially the fact that you should go with whatever makes you horniest.
My bikesalso available for you to try if you want, it's only 1 tooth down on the front sprocket so is a bit closer to standard and isn't quite as 'mad' as Bruce's.

my k2 is fuckin awesome, but i would say that aye!
has yoshi race kit, cams, flowed head, zorst etc, claimed 170 at the wheel by previous owner.
great fun and very easy to ride, heeeaps of torque, its possible to be very lazy - changing gear bugger all etc.
Its faily comfortable, compared to my 1990 gsxr750....
wheelies are on the cards all over the show, esp in 2nd, just open the throttle at 100k, no pull on the bars required,
I think mine has the rev limiter removed, wheelies up2 195 (on closed private roads of course) in second well into the red zone :shit: anyone else's k2 rev to 13k?
If you want to have a blat on mine fish you are welcome to do so,
its on standard gearing :)
They are so cheap for what you get, i cannot fault mine, apart from having a bit too much power :violin: oh, its a tough life

One known problem with this particular model is the tendency for it to dis-obey all posted speed limits. A side effect of this has been documented, it is called 'losing your licence'.
Luckily enough I haven't struck the last problem yet, although the first certainly has cropped up.

1st K3 don't have single pads per Pistons they have 4 per side & K4's have 2 per side . 2nd K3/K4 have a 32 Bit computer where a K1/2 only have a 16 Bit Computer . Plus K3 / K4 have about another 10-15 more HP less weight Etc . The K3 was 03 Bike of the Year it doesn't get any better than that the Best in the World ! Which ever you buy you'll still be getting a Bike that can hold its own with anything out there if you can ride it so Enjoy :Oi:

10+ HP HMMMMM.
ANYWAYS I OWNED BOTH AND I THINK THE K3 IS DEFINATELY A BETTER BIKE ALL ROUND IF ONLY IN SMALL AMOUNTS SLIGHTLY BETTER BRAKES , SLIGHTLY BETTER HANDLING AND I THINK TRADING UP WAS MONEY WELL SPENT. I WOULDNT WORRY BOUT THE HP DIFFERENCE THEY ARE SORTA CLOSE ENOUGH FOR THE AVERAGE RIDER NOT TO WORRY ABOUT I JUST THINK THE K3 IS A BIT SMOOTHER YET MORE RESPONSIVE TO THE POINT WHERE I TOOK THE TRE OFF AND GAVE IT TO OAB FOR HIS K2.
THE K1/2 HAD A BETTER FINISH IN SOME WAYS LIKE THICKNESS AND STRENGTH OF PANELS AND PAINT.
ANY GIXXER 1000 IS A WINNER SO GET WHAT YOU LIKE WITHIN YOUR BUDGET.
CONSIDER THE K1 AND ALL THE COMPARABLE BIKES OF THAT YEAR , ZX9 WAS A FACELIFT 98 MODEL , THE R1 WAS A FUCKEN JOKE AND THE BLADE WAS A FUCKEN TURD , IT WAS SUZUKI LEADING THE WAY YET AGAIN AND ITS 2006 AND HONDA STILL HAVENT CAUGHT UP TO THE K1 GIX1000

Man, you are wasting your time, you already got a good bike. You buy a Gixxer & tell me you can do a better time from A to B just cos its a Gixxer and you are talking shit. Some dudes on here could maybe experience the difference between your current bike and a Gixxer K5, but the average dude won't notice shit, but will talk one up over another due to personal preference. K3/K4 vs CBR1K no way, you wanna change and feel the difference, go K5 other than that you wasting your time unless you ride like Bruce or Jimmie, even then I challenge those guys to tell you that the K3/K4 is better. Same................maybe..........better - no way. I have ridden K3 and it feels like an old clunker, K4 won't be much different, K5 however different story. If you are going to change for the sake of change, go to K5. All the thou's for the average punter are much of a muchness, you can ride them easy and keep up with the next guy on another brand of thou. Its only when you ride them hard that you will determine a difference. When you ride with say, Bruce, Jimmie, Daryl, get them to swap brands & give you feedback (and maybe review times on a closed circuit) stand up and listen, until then its all shit. (although Bruce & Jimmie are pro Suzuki - I am sure they would give an honest appraisal on stuff - as for Daryl, he's just a slut - give him a bike to thrash and he will say it's "kewl" no matter what)

Yeah like you said "Within my budget" and thats why I am looking at a K1 or K2 as they are a few G's cheaper than the K3 or K4. I like all the gixxer thou's but at the moment the earlier ones are the only ones I can afford at this point.

Its only when you ride them hard that you will determine a difference.
And what average rider can ride a 1000, "hard" !
I reckon I'd be quicker point to point on a 750...being an old woos, my reactions are just a tad slow when it comes to 1000 power.......I find it easier to get the power down hard on a 750.
mind you - I love the roll on grunt of a Gixxer1000 - you can keep your V twins......

2001 GSXR1k was voted 2001 Bike of the Year in PB magazine and Superbike I think.
I've seen higher outputs listed.
http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_0106_gsxr1000/
They list the 2001 GSXR1k as 143.1hp which is close as to the 02 model and I've seen higher numbers in other bike mags for both the 01/02
All irrellevant really, all are wicked bikes and faster than most who ride em.

Quite true but it also beat the K5..... though some would argue that it wasn't quite as well set up as the 10 BUT the 10 didn't have a steering damper either which made it a bit less user friendly however, it still won

And if anyone was this 1 person they be on a track racing, so just get which ever bike turns you on the most(well that is in your budget of course, since, thats always the biggest thing), and feel comfortable on.
