SV1000-$12.500 then spend some more coin on some nice cans. Use the rest to buy the missus something nice...u lucky SOB.

If you are doing the hill everyday, then you probably should be looking at a litre bike. You need to decide whether you want a sprotboike or a more upright sports-tourer. I think that any make-preference you have will cater to the type you settle on. And they are mostly all bullet-proof these days.

sv-thou kinda does both those rather well and seem incredibly cheap

With your budget I'd buy a new Hornet. Deal of the century at $10,500. To that I'd add a fly screen and do the rear suspension -- Ohlins. I'd also invest in a new saddle, depending on how much change there was left from the $15,000.

Then, as I saved a few sheckles, I'd add a Power Commander and a Staintune or Micron exhaust system and a K&N air filter.

I looked at one of these when we first moved but decided to spend a small amount on the bike I have now which is 650 Bros which does the trip well but dosent seem as comftable as I would like.
Will hopefully do some test rides this week or next

Yep. The Hornet goes pretty well over that hill. Change the bars and you wont have to worry about the seat change. The wide bars make it bloody easy to through trhough the corners.

SV1000 is pretty good value too..

It's not an SP2. But the price is good.

Gear driven cams, no stupid belts or chains to wear out or adjust.

I agree the bike is well priced..and would be nice to have some change and spending a little on upgrades..P

Hitcher is right - Hornet is good.
A new Bonneville is a beautiful motorcycle in that price range too.

pastybee - go look at the bike stores, or the bike trader

and see which bikes turn you on, and then go looking, test riding those.

Cause you have to ride, it best way for that is getting something that turns you on.

I so want one.

Having said that I bought a 900 Hornet. and with 900cc its anything BUT boring. The candy red one is pretty too, but I bought a black one cos Im bad-ass.*

A new Bonneville is a beautiful motorcycle in that price range too.

I agonised over the choice of a new Bonnie at $13k and the Hornet at $11k.

What got me to buy the Hornet was the weight, power and torque figures. I see a Bonnie as a starting point, something you'd need to spend some money on to make it go like it should, whereas the Hornet is "Turn key" and as fast as I want to go. Very comfy two up too, Im told.

I didnt win Big Wednesday, so am not ordering a Scrambler today. :(

Its the May Cycle World cover, if you havent seen it. Tested by Egan. Sooooo cool. (but 47hp? whats up with THAT!)

Bloody irresponsible allowing people out on bikes with that much HP I reckon.

I doubt my genuine 'C' would hit 42bhp....

but your "C" would be 100 pounds lighter than the Scrambler. so pwr to weight would be better. Get the May CW when it comes out (or I can photocopy the test for ya if you dont mind B & W).. PM me if you want it.

The hornet has to be about the best value new bike around at the mo. SV thou's are nice too, having ridden one of them they are comfy and a lot of fun. The SP1's I was completely under impressed with, there was just no spark with it. Look cool tho (except that fugly dash).

Take a few bikes out for a ride. You havent really said what your preference is style wise, but I reckon that if I was looking around in that budget for the travel you're talking about, I'd be lining up to take the hornet for a test ride for sure.

If your budget is between 15 - 20 then the world is your oyster. You can just about buy any mass market bike you like. Half the fun is in the decision process.

If you decide on a Honda, either don't tell anyone here or cancel your login and create a new one. Being the superior brand, it tends to upset the fools that let the magazines decide for them.

Hornets are usually rated as having a very high "grin factor".

If you were doing endless motorway journeys, or even motorway journeys that just seemed endless, it might be boring. Otherwise it shouldn't be, must be how you ride?

But I'm a 100lbs heavier than Steve McQueen so it all works out...

I read a classic bike test of the new Bonnie compared to a T140 with all the usual mod's. The T140 kicked it arse everyway but down. However, it's not really about that is it?

If I was Mr Bloor I would sack the designer and gently rework the bike using Turners well established design priciples and they would have something really nifty!

Bandit K6 1200S with Ohlins and Traxxion susp will come in under $15K, it'll do that commute better than a Hornet. And it's a new model. not a run-out.

I would suggest this one too... But chuck in the front end of a CBR600RR (they slot straight in i heard)

That or a SV1000S...

Or a Bandit1200

Well i already have a honda shhhhhh but was only used as my work bike so that should be alright.

As Our house is paid of and debt free i thought i miss it so much i might get back into it.

Now I am faced with a delema I know if i spend a fair chunk on a nice bike I may not want to use it everyday so may keep the honda for the travel :scooter: as there is nothing wrong with it(Sorry to offend anyone here). And have a nice weekend bike hehehehehehe

Pretty sure the CBR600RR forks are different size (41mm not 43mm?). The CBR600F4 forks are right diameter and are a popular upgrade overseas.

Cant remember what the riding pos is like on a Bros, but I have ridden two K6's and a CBR600RR ('03) and I couldnt make either of them turn easily. I know that the bikes a technologically brilliant, but having not ridden a sprotsbike much at all, I found the Hornet MUCH easier to ride. That could be a factor.

Sometimes its hard to change bike styles I guess.

At $20K Id be tempted to look at a Sprint ST, or Buell Firebolt.

Ask for your wifes opinion before buying anything and let her think she picked out the bike you finally end up getting. It'll be happy days.

a CBR600RR ('03) and I couldnt make either of them turn easily.Aye, agreed. First corner on the CBR600RR it felt like it would never go around. It did require a modification of technique. But it was apparent that it could hustle. Lovely engine, smooth and not at all frightening.

Nice work bud, you gotta show me how to do that. As much as I hate to say it and its not new but if ya want a high mileage bulletproof try an RF900 Suzi. I had two buddies achieve well over 90,000 troublefree K's. One is at 118,000 and the other at 92,000.
The riding position is pretty good, its quick and a good handler.

I feel like such a dirty trator to Honda and am going to take a shower now (ever seen the shower scene from the crying game?).

I recently went the SV1000S Black, race pipes, single seat cover router myself. Sounds great, goes great, handles great... really is a treat to ride. Makes a great change after my 4 cylinder life, hold a gear through the twisties, just listening to the overun. They're good fun, and the sound coming out of bends is just like watching Carl Foggarty on the tele :) They're damn cheap at the moment, cheap enough to justify loading it up with goodies :)

I'd go for a Vtwin for that price, VTR and SV are both under 13k new, if you look around you can even get a second hand one at the right price or a TL with all the mods and low K's, I got mine for 8k with only 16000 on the clock and it had 2bros cans, braided lines and packrack and a twin will make you sound like the god of thunder racing through the hills

Those Fazers are all good, plenty of power, good brakes and handling, and ive had no complaints from the back seat.
You can cruise all day, and still stand up at the bar when you get off:apint: :apint:
Ive taken mine up to the cape, 21km of gravel each way, no worries.

Just try all you can, you might find some of the less popular bikes might just surprise you.
And hey it doesnt hurt to be different.
