It just came up too high too quick- that should put off a few wannabe wheel-standers! Poor guy looked like he did the splits for the first time in his life :shit:

I find it surprising how much the poor bike bounces around after the guy fell off.

So things the rider did wrong:

Came up too high too quick.
Too many revs (I guess both these go together).

Wearing shorts (well, it wouldn't have made the wheelie any better if he'd be wearing proper gear, but in the light of what happened, shorts was a mistake).


I've never wheelied before on a motorcycle, but I'd like to try one day. What other stuff did this guy do wrong, or what could he have done to avoid binning it like that?
I'm guessing that if he had kept his feet on the pegs and closed the throttle, pulled the clutch in, or touched the rear brake, the front wheel might've came back down and been ok?
Looking at the video, maybe if he'd let go of the handlebars sooner after falling off, the bike would have fallen forwards rather than going sideways and cartwheeling?
I guess he just panicked and didn't know what he was doing.

At least it looks like he picked a good deserted place to do it. The camera work seems to be pretty good how it zoomed out to keep the bike and guy in the shot after he fell off.

Just watched it again, and the guy closed the throttle as if letting it back down, but then snapped it back onto the power which threw him off the bike......

Just start slowly and genlty get the wheel up higer Eric :niceone: get used to the wheel leaving the ground (even if it is like 10-15cm) and work you way up the revs to get the wheel higher :niceone: , but if you bin it....... it wasnt my fault hehehe....

Yeah I noticed that too. Looks like he might have been a little over enthusiastic about changing gears.

I've got nice example of a wheelie shot onboard a Busa. The guy gets through 3 gear changes taking him over 140Mph before getting to a top speed of 220Mph. All done smooth as silk.

I cried for the bike though. Damn crunching sound is not nice.

Well it was off the VTR website, but it is pretty hard to tell.

That looks farily painful for both bike and rider. Won't be trying that if i ever ride a VTR.

I may be out of line here 'cause I'm not sure of the source of that vid, but I reckon that's a Suzuki TLR or S, and the guy seems to be wearing trousers of some sort, maybe draggin jeans, and not shorts.

Still, I'm no wheelie expert and I can't offer any advice at all.
