View Full Version : Yamaha XJ600 cold starting.

How do other XJ600 owners cold start there bike.Because i have no owners manual,Ive found the only way to start mine is with no choke(or it floods), but you guessed it, most times it works ok, sometimes it dont. There must be a use for the choke somehow? PS bike runs great.

I`ve got a 600 Fazer and it`s the same.Starts first time on the button and ticks over sweetly whatever the temperature or how long it`s been standing for.Only time I used the choke was when I first got it and it didnt like it at all,took me a few days to suss out I needed to leave the choke alone.Bike runs really well,I`ve done 19,000 miles in a bit over 2 years and the guy who services it says it`s an exceptionally smooth motor,not running rich or anything.Basically dont worry about it.I hit the button,hold it at 1000 rpm for all of 15 seconds and let her tick over for a while before pulling away,if it aint broke dont try and fix it.

Thanks for the reply Moko, if i didnt know better,i would think you were talking about my bike.You are bang on, so i guess we have got it right.Cheers mate.

the turbo starts with full choke, and no throttle. and at least 30s of cranking.. when hot it takes iether 1s or 45s...... and no throttle or choke.. as there are sooooo many turbo's out there i thought this may be of some help:whistle:

when i had my xj600 i never used the choke,just gave it a quick twist off the throttle when hitting the starter holding the revs about 1500-2000 for 10-20 secs-try different variations you'll soon suss it out

The question was asked waaaay back in April 2006.
I think they will have it worked out by now.

had the same problem with my xj750,only happened in the winter so i
had to get up alittle earlier find the wifes hairdryer and warm the carbs up.
worked for me anyway
