In other countries.....Here your life is worth 9 months disqualification for the driver who kills you, no other penalty aside from totally pathetic costs. Hell you don't even have to express remorse and the family of the victim you killed has to fork out for the funeral.

What hope do bikers have?

Umm, we are the careless drivers half the time, depending on the definition of careless. I agree, it is a bit dodgy that the penalties seem so light, but I am pretty sure they can throw more, bigger penalties at the persons involved if needs be? my bro was disqualified for 2 years without even hurting anyone.

Actually the family of the victim CAN claim for any and all costs that are a direct result of the careless driving. They can't claim any costs that are met by ACC. So if ACC make a contribution towards the funeral then you are right, no claim.

I know someone who got charged with careless driving killing to people and then left the scene, They got a slap on the wrist as well, I think its wrong as well,

It appears that the usual aggravating factors were absent. What penalty do you think should have been imposed Indoo?

well i think if you crash and someone dies under normal conditions then thats bad luck. If you are screaming around and crach and kill someone you should be charged with man slaughter, Indded the person i know left the scene as well, That shows guilt in my view.
