Honda VTZ Wet weather starting

Could I get some advice people, My VTZ is usually a great starter in the dry and the cold. If its left in the rain or after rain it whines, coughs, farts and doesnt want to go anywhere (Kinda like my ex-wife). I leave it fully covered outside and it still does this thing.

Where should I start?

What should I look at?Plug caps, leads and coils in that order.

right its quite simple really....you will require few tools that you will have to purchase as most will readilly be avilable for free...

1.fine a armfull of twigs and sticks
2.find some used or un-used areosil spray cans
3.you will need some paper
4.matches or a lighter

5.place paper under the vtz
6.place aerosil cans on top of the paper which you have already place under the vtz
7.on top of this place the sticks and twigs,spreading them out evenly to get good long burn going
8.lay the vtz gentaly down on the said arrangment of flamible matrials,careful not to upset them
9.pull the fuel hose off the vtz,letting fuel run all over the flamible matrials
10.stand back and flick a match at it all,and hope it ignites

very good...now you will never have starting problems with your honda ever again...
feels good doesn't it!!

OK well thought out comeback, this is what i get for taking the piss out of Suzuki's isnt it? Credit where its due! I'm not the first Honda rider to take the piss outa Suzukis and I definately won't be the last!

Simple solution, its similiar to a pebkac (problem exists between keyboard and chair) error on a computer; replace the user and it will work fine ;)

Seriously, i NEVER EVER had problems starting it EVER and you saw where i keep my bikes (sadly) out in the rain like that.....

It only started doing this yesterday, Damn annoying! Happend after rain yesterday and after rain today. You got any ideas?

Let me try it? I'll call you from work tommorow if the shop aint gonna fix it tommorow and i'll ride up to your place if you want, sound good?

Turn all the lights and everything off, twist throttle open fully 2 times hold the starter and twist throttle to 4k rpm, continue abusing starter motor till battery is indanger of going flat. works for me :) (ride immediately afterwards to recharge battery)

On a side note I checked the electrics in the bandit today, got a cool flow diagram with tons of possible problems (4 pages), didnt help much though as 2 arrows later it said my bike was ok....

But it appears something is wrong with the 2nd (from the left) spark plug/cyclinder.

I just remembered that i left the fuel tap on in the rain as its not completly sealed.

Take the right side panel off and you should see a smallish (3-6mm) hose that goes into top middle (on the right hand side of the bike), I replaced this with an air hose rather than a fuel one (its only air through it) as i couldnt easily find one small enough.

anyway, check that its still plugged on and hasn't been damaged, if you need some more ive got some here along with the bigger fuel hose which you could clamp.

Bonez was on the money

My FZ400 did the exact same thing. The drain holes that were supposed to funnel rain water away from the plug "wells" were often full of shit, and the plug wells wouldnt drain, and I'd get precisely what you have described. Caused by the water short circuiting the power which is supposed to go down ya spark plug, but earths thru the water onto the engine instead, causing weak sparking, and hard starting.

Find the drain holes, and stick a piece of wire up em to un-clog them, and you should be cool.
