I've been saving these things really had and all I've got to was some crummy movie tickets and shit before they expire.....

Has anyone here gotten any of the good stuff from their catalogue?

I get my gas for the bike and two cars from shell (bout $120 a week), wife shops at their chemist and we get stuff from their other retailers too. I feel a bit ripped off. Are these points schemes a rip or what?

Had good stuff from hotpoints and airpoints but this flybuys stuff seems like a hard graft.

Wife got Breville Breadmaker. Fresh bread on a free breadmaker - not bad at all.

Get good brand name stuff. Not bargain price by any means, but better than just sitting on the points.

Phoned up and complained and they said "fuck all we can do about it".

"Loyalty cards" are a waste of space...:mega:

We got a Breville grill thing like a George Foreman type thing. It is awesome!!! Does a beaut steak in like 5 mins, but great for all meats really. Got a cordless drill from them too, pretty good and a ton of other shit, just pick the brands or go and check it out in the shop first if you can.

Got a couple of decent sleeping bags and a couple of lights to and from places around the country. Anything 'free' is better than nothing.

Yeah, it is a bit of a bitch to clean, those sponges are good, they don't tend to last too long, but still better than nothing aye.

yea, they last about 5 or 6 tough scrubs each... but yea, still better than scrubbing it with a dish cloth or brush.

We got a sandwich maker that has paid for itself in yummy lunches - easier to clean than a George Foreman grill too, by the sound of it! I also got some kitchen scales and a double electric blanket for the spare bed so visitors don't get chilly in winter. The Samsung DVD/VCR combo is crap - the timer loses time every day or so and you can't set it to record the same show every week or every month. But our VCR died and we had no money so we had no choice!

But the bestest thing we got was a set of Diamond tickets to see the Rolling Stones next Tuesday in Wellington. Fly Buys were selling the tickets so it wasn't a reward as such, but I ordered and paid for a pair of Gold tickets at $300 for the pair. I got sent Diamond tickets ($700 the pair) by mistake, and being the honest person I am (well, no, I was just shit-scared they would bill me the extra $400 a few weeks later!), I contacted them to let them know. The upshot? "Thanks for letting us know, we've decided you can keep them" - woo hoo, my husband is rapt as I bought them for him as an anniversary/birthday present! Just shows that honesty does pay!

We've gotten a milk shake maker, a fan, and various other stuff I cant recall off the top of my head.

Better than my AA reward points.. I got a whole 6 points or something last year and got 25 cents of this years membership :-P

We got a discman thingy which is great in the car- we don't have a CD player in the car, also got a portable gas stove and other odds and sods. I've got no complaints, but I like Westpac Hotpoints better- did all our Christmas shopping from that last year and it didn't cost me a cent!

We have had a couple of nights in Motels around the country, and a PS2 from Fly Buys, think I'll convert the next lot to Airpoints just before they die.

Totally off subject, but non-stick surfaces are a bloody waste of time. Why oh why don't they just make the elements out of stainless or something else that can be scrubbed with steel wool or whatever?? It'd actually be EASIER to clean them properly and they'd last for years.

Ahem... as you were.

To carry on the "off topic" convo of non-stick stuff, we bought a Scanpan frying pan. It cost about $200, but figured it was worth it for the amount of $70 Briscoe frying pans we went through. These things have a life time garentee, already been replaced free of charge once due to a faulty batch. They are fantastic, wipes clean, never sticks, does a mean fried egg without using any oil or anything, which is great for the waist line and come with a splatter cover and a hefty glass lid. Fantastic!!
Ok, back to the topic.....

Airfares and accomodation for a couple of trips Auckland - Christchurch. I think we got our cordless phone on flybuys too. The inlaws got their fasx machine on Flybuys.
We only get lots of points because of the mortgage - without it I suspect you would never save enough to be useful.

We use fly-buy's and a credit card for all our monthly purchases. (except for MeridianEnergy who only allow late or bad payers to pay by credit card.:tugger: )

We lost a few fly-buy points because they expired and some of the "rewards" purchases have been diabolical crap.

You pay the price whether you claim them or not so you may as well get the discount back again and try to be careful with the "rewards" purchases.

Combined with the cash-back "rewards" from the credit card for the month it mounts up to quite a bit, so not to be sneezed at for doing what you have to do anyway. (annually)

The big danger is if you don't manage your money properly because that credit card will bight you real hard.

In answer to your question, is it worth it? I think not but can you afford to avoid it? I think not also. Bastards!

We are still free to choose, Hobson's choice here but our freedom is ebbing ever so steadily away. :crybaby:

Used to diesel my rig up at Shell garages, boss payed the diesel bill and I got the flybuys ... then they changed to BP ... bugger....

Got 2 new cell phones
A muffin maker
a Firestorm battery drill/sander/jigsaw set
coffee maker

and a few other bits and pieces.

All have worked well and we are pretty happy with flybuys.
