Ok y'all...we're going for a blast up this way on saturday if you're up for it.
Been told that the weather should be good but if it turns to shit I'll be calling it off.
Got a "few" contenders that have already shown interest so if ya keen show it!
This ride won't suit total nana's,even though I'll be there, but in saying that all that's required is a good attitude, safe skills and no politics....
So who's in? :ride:

...I'm going up prob about 9ish saturday
You foam blowers would want to leave Auckland BY 9am if not earlier to get into Whangarei by 11am so we can have a decent days riding.
Plenty of roads to chose from but at this stage we maybe cruising up Old Russell Rd to Russell, ferry to Paihia,Matauri Bay,back roads through Keri Keri over to Kaikohe,Opononi,WAIPOUA FOREST:not: and which everway tickles our bits from there.

Attention Jafa's!
Meet us at the Whanagei Information Centre which is situated on the right as you come into Whangaz...large field and hard to miss!
Reason for this is that we want to get into the main ride ASAP as we'll be doing some decent k's on superb roads.
If y'all leave at around 8am from Westgate you should be here by 10am.
A definate route is now fully sorted as are alternate routes incase of weather etc.
Rest assured you'll all have big cheesies on!!!

No I left Pakuranga and took the motorway did a consistent 120kmph until I got to the Brynderwyn SH12 turn off and then did a bit more than 120kmph.
I wonder if it'll be slower going through the back roads for me. I'm only on a 250.
I don't know where the Whangarei Info centre is - so I hope you know the way.
So far there should be, you, Erik and I, I don't know if there are any others coming.
If I'm not there leave without me, I'll catch you'll in Whangarei by taking SH1.
See you tomorrow.

Thanks for organising that TL Rider. That's the longest ride I've ever done in one day. Left home at 6:40am, got back home again at about 8:40pm!
It was an interesting day. After 2 years of motorcycling and maybe 8 years of driving a cage, I got my first speeding ticket. $400 (which is going to be split between me and justsomeguy since the cop said one of us had to own up to the ticket or he'd give us both tickets) 50 demerits, and 1km/h away from walking home. Ouch!
The oncoming traffic had been flashing it's lights at us (me and justsomeguy), so we slowed down and there was a camera van on the side of the road. So we go past it and begin to speed up again and lo and behold, there is a cop sitting on the next straight... :( Crafty bastards. (I'm sure I've read of them doing this before on here... should've remembered).
Later in the day me and John missed a turn off and ended up in Pataua North. We headed back to Whangarei and then up to Russell where everyone else was heading and luckily met up with the group at a gas station on the way.
The rest of my ride was event free and by the end of the ride I felt like I was getting used to the bandit and back into the groove after not riding on the open road in several weeks.
It was interesting riding back in the dark. Cheers for the company on the way back, ukbandit.
Duc-Gurl, did the footpeg hold up ok on the ride back?

Anyway - I need some advice regarding demerit points can someone please PM me.

Like that fucktard in the late model BMW who tried his best not to let me past but failed. Then low and behold, who came through the intersection with a flat tyre, Mr. Fucktard. The tosser even made his wife get out and check it before he dragged himself out in shame.

Awesome roads" great twistie stuff" especially the forest bit" cheers to TL for waiting up--
A big credit goes to dover and his pillion (vixsta i think) for two up the whole way, and no sign of slowing" (scary thing is Dover reckons Vixsta is quicker!!!!)
Highlights o' the day--
1)Two chappies getting shafted by "piggies" ouch.. an expensive day
2) about 423 petrol stops
3) mist , rain, sun , wind about three times during the day,
4) a sore head for cager, and glass in his hair, due to a misfortunate run in with someones fist.
5) a scuff' n Bump", on a bit o gravel ( i still reckon ya'r lucky Dg)
6) ridin home in the dark with a tinted visor, plenty bugs, then a bit o rain" and the regrettable wipe of the visor whilst in transit"
900 od k's All in all great ridin great roads, cant wait to do it again--

But hey when ya warn people about the fact a cop has just gone ahead and to look out for a specific car...colour/model/even rim size...what else can ya do?

I don't see how we could have avoided that ticket apart from not speeding:slap: We shouldn't have been speeding in those places as there were no faster riders ahead of us in a group, especially as we can't "plant it" as the cop put it.
Same with the other ticket...... there was no way to "see" the cop or get any other hint.
Tough luck, anyway lets just savour the thousands of time we got away and I'll just wait till someone knocks on my door and wants the little piece of plastic.:eyepoke: Nice of the cop to let me ride away.

It says on the back of my ticket that "demerit points will be recorded against you upon payment of the infringement fee."
So maybe the cop couldn't take your licence yet?

Dont pay the full amount of the fine, their computor needs the fine amount and the payment to be the same before it can generate demerit points, if fine amount is paid and say, you are on 80 dem pts, and the tickets worth 40 dem pts then you are walking. If you dont pay the full amount then you will get a reminder notice to pay more, pay more just dont pay it out. Hopefully you can hold out till demerit points drop off the other end........... :blip:

(This feels like an Oscar speech) As we get into winter I guess we can't expect so many perfect days, but overall we were pretty fortunate with the weather. We finally managed to get everyone together at Burger King in Whangarei. 17 bikes in total departed and headed through town (lots of Saturday shoppers gave us the stear, sort of made it feel special). We took everyone out along the northern side of the Whangarei Habour, to our favourate back door track, Mt Tiger Road. So we were into the good shit straight away. 27kms of super winding road up over the ridges of the eastern Whangarei skyline which dropped us out at the nor'eastern end of the city. From there we took the Ngunguru Road to the east coast proper, following the coastline up through Tutukaka, Matapouri, (2x speeding tickets, and the winners are:third: ),Wooly Bay, Sandy Bay. From there we swung inland and made our way back to Hikurangi, a small township 20kms north of Whangarei. By this time we would have done a good 80-90kms of great roads, and we had bearly left town:whistle: . A short link onto SH1 and more fuel, we then swung east again and headed out towards Oakura and the old Russell Road. A brief period of rain (was forced to pull over and remove the tinted insert I had just put on my visor, couldnt see a thing), slowed us down a bit but as we headed further north towards the Bay of Islands we found clear roads again. Unfortunately there was a lot of P-metal this time, but Im sure the serious boys up the front found this just adding to there fun. Me I was trying to make all corners straight and stay as safe and upright as possible, bearing in mind Im about to trade my bike and buy a new one.:sweatdrop :sweatdrop
We finally all met up in Russell for lunch at the famous and infamous Duke of Melborough Tavern. By this stage the ride now has plenty of material to make a short movie, starting with the day before when the first of the Jaffa waive arrived at mine and TL Riders place.:drinknsin :thud:
From there we planned to head West to our beloved Kaikohe/Opo road and the Waipoua Forest to finish off the day. For those of you who havent managed the northern experience yet, this is about a 500km loop, all totally windy and challenging.
Some people had already dropped off by now, and a couple more had to peel away too, but we still had a hardcore group to do the west. However, 10-15min out of Paihia and I find myself lying on the side of the road feeling like a right twat:brick: :brick: Couldnt believe it, I was pulling off the road at the next meeting point and didnt see the metal under my heavily breaking front wheel, a quick wash out of the front and she's all over rover. Nothing major that cant be fixed, other than bruised pride, a wrenched shoulder and being pissy at missing the next part of the ride.
Thanks to nodrog for following me home with a broken gearshift and smashed off footpeg.
The rest of the ride I believe was as it always is through those parts, yeeeeha!!
As organisers (Which of course was TL Rider) we learned a lot about how it can be done better next time.
Meanwhile, Im back to work (just had some time off), and back to the basement to fix the TL.

Fucking awesome ride, just what I needed to reprofile the Pilot Power after a few weeks of motorway commuting!!
The roads up there are truly awesome and that twisty little bitch over Mt Tiger Rd was a perfect start to the da,y which carried on in much the same vein until we crawled back into Whangarei in the dark and drizzle at 6.30.
I had a hoot trying to keep pace with the northern monkeys thru the twisties, gave up a little on the real fast sweepers cos 2 up it gets a bit wallowy at those speeds, luckily Vic's a fuckin mad biker and I'll never go too fast with her on the back.
A huge thanks to Chris and Annette for their hospitality, thanks to Custard and Vicky for the entertainment on Friday night and thanks to Northland District Council for their fine playground.
Will be doing it again soon but first I need to get my heap of shit in for a service and some new rubber.
Long live the Log!

I don't see how we could have avoided that ticket apart from not speeding:slap:
Same with the other ticket...... there was no way to "see" the cop or get any other hint.
:shit: ...mate we all had a BIG conversation re the Sandy Bay cops remember?

No worries mate, thought we were going to get into a fist fight for a moment.... hehehe
Leave em be they're just doing their job.
That cop dealing with you seemed to have a big chip on his shoulder and was a bit of an a-hole.
I was lucky I got the guy with a better attitude, even the cop who pinged me earlier in the day was a nice chap and let us leave with one ticket. -Thanks again Erik for being the man.
Yes TL I knew about the cop, just didn't expect him to be waiting there...... Oh well....... at the rate things were going I'm surprised I lasted this long....
