EC300 Road legal

Gt a demo ec300 last year didnt come with ne of the lights or speedo and now sum of the wires on the brakes have com off. But iould like to know if it would be a feasible in light of the petrol prices. Cheaper to buy a road bike or out fit my offroad bike? I do a quite a bit of offroad so it seems it could get annoying to change the tyres all the time. What would be the approx cost to outfit the bike? Lights, rego, re-vin, etc.

My old mans EC300 came 3 with all the bits to make it road legal. and most bike wreckers will have the right used bits to make it road legal again. Just watch out for the indicator on the silencer side as they seem to melt from the heat, but im sure there is some way to fix that problem.
my dad actually ran his bike in when it was road legal setup, would be a fairly good commuter although the seat is a bit hard for my liking.

You're kidding right? 1st time rego/vin & all that malarky would have to net you a pretty good gain in petrol consumption.

& to be honest my 200 dirtbike has worse consumption than my wife’s car. I imagine the 300 would be the same as my van. -- Only thing is my van isn’t a competition engine, the bike is & to expect it to do bulk miles is asking too much.

I got a 1.3l carburated 4 spd car. Fuel is lik $40 a week.

I go from taupaki school(near) to pt chev pretty much everyday(4days).
I could leave later and and get there earlier. MOre thinking along the lines of road bike. But i jus wana stop being in a cage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The EC300 runs premix so you'd have to carry oil with you if you needed to fill up at the servo.

Shit and there is also that factor! forgot about that! I wouldn't personally liekto carry two stroke oil everywhere while riding.

Considering id also be carrying tools. Carrying oil wouldn't be bad but it is an extra weight. :wari:

There's also other issues, like:
Range - not much with the standard tank and gearing (<100km?)
Tyres - anything more aggressive than 50/50 road/dirt get chopped out pretty quick on the highway.
Comfort - After an hour (even less) the seat will feel like you have a piece of 100x50 wedged-up you arse (actually - not far from the truth)

If you are going to be doing these trips regularly and for some time I think you are better off buying an older 600 single dualpurpose or 500 twin roadbike - cheap to buy, cheap to run, but with plenty of power and comfort for highway work.
