Last time I looked it up (a while ago) ACDC were the third highest selling band - Beatles Stones ACDC Led Zep. all of whome I cant split for 'greatest'.
The knob gobbler freddie and queen are about 270th.
Whitesnake?!?! Coverdale's (he was the singer wann he?) best work was with Deep Purple.
Bonn Scott was the best singer for ACDC too.

Bonn Scott was the best singer for ACDC too.
I knew Brian Johnson years ago when he was the singer in a band called Geordie working the North-East club curcuit in England. After he got the break into AC/DC, he still came along to see our band regularly when he was in town as he was related to our keyboard player.
Brian never referred to himself as a singer. Obviously, whenever he came along, he would get young guys coming up for autographs and asking him to get up on stage. He always declined saying that our front man was a singer and he was only a screamer. He always considered himself to be very lucky to get the break that he did. He was a really nice, down to earth guy back then. Don't know what he is like now as I haven't seen him for years.

In no particular order,
Queen, Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, G'n'R, Styx, AC/DC, Led Zepp, and a few others that most people have never heard of.

The Bonn Scott days, yes, but the greastest rock band ever for me is without doubt 'KISS' ........ seen them twice, the best stage show, no question. I have been into this band since 1977, there are only two acts to out sell them in record sale's and they are the Beatles and dickhead Elvis.

Can't figure out if my two cockateils (birds) like or hate ACDC, but everytime an ACDC song comes on the radio they go MENTAL!!!!!!
BTW, my vote is for Metallica, Led Zep, The Doors, Pink Floyd, U2.

There can be no such thing as 'greatest rock band ever'. It's too opinionated, and as you can see from recent top 40 lists most people's opinions are dictated by fashion and the media. And you can't judge a band by record/CD sales now there's illegal downloading. I'm sure The Beatles would’ve sold far less records if they were the biggest thing today

I suggest the following if you look at the root influences of post-blues modern rock. For example Aerosmith, Kiss, Van Halen et al follow on from Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin but there is no band which surpasses Led Zeppelin which was the original.
Pop = The Beatles
Rock = Led Zeppelin / Cream
Heavy Rock = Black Sabbath
Progressive Rock = Pink Floyd / Yes / Emerson Lake and Palmer
Acid Rock = Jefferson Airplane
Guitar = Jimi Hendrix / Joe Satriani
Punk = The Sex Pistols
Grunge = Pearl Jam

Far out! Didn't think anyone else had heard of them. Was the second LP I bought (after Billion Dollar Babies) was called 'Don't be fooled by the name' and yes I still have it. Brian Johnson is listed on the back as 'Vocals'. Brilliant version of 'House of the rising sun'

If you're as old as I am and like most things that runs on petrol, you'll agree with my list:
Queen
CCR
Foreigner
Pink Floyd
Kiss
Deep Purple
...and so on, you get the drift. Whatever order you arrange them, doesn't matter!

but the greastest rock band ever for me is without doubt 'KISS' ........
Not a big fan of KISS,but the man behind them - Bob Ezrin,is also involved in many of my most favorite rock performers.With Ezrin Alice Cooper's music became more commercial and the theatrics years ahead of anyone else.He produced,played and sang on Lou Reed's Berlin album,probably one of the scariest and emotive of Reed's work.He also produced the most theatrical and personal of Pink Floyd albums too - The Wall.A man behind the scenes,but as producer it's almost like his artists changed....
