One person died in a multiple pile-up on Auckland's Southern Motorway this morning.

..
The motorway was closed southbound causing major disruption to Good Friday traffic, which was made worse by several subsequent minor accidents as a result of the congestion.

Motorway traffic was being diverted at Hill Rd before Manurewa and some southbound on-ramps have been closed to ease congestion, police said.

One driver reported southbound traffic was backed up at least as far as East Tamaki Road - about 12km...

The motorway will be closed to southbound traffic for some time as investigators are experiencing difficulty getting to the scene.

'Twas bad (is bad as I write). I had to come into werk. Thank goodness I came on the bike. It was backed up to Otara, motionless. I got tangled up with a horde of scooters (no flame, they dealt with things very well). Lanesplitting like crazy as far as Wiri off ramp.

So, if the investigators can't get through, why not put them on bikes. Their own, or pillion behind a bikie cop. 'Tis a serious suggestion.

Anyway folks, avoid the Southern. And Great South Road, it is as bad.

I believe it is because of equipments.

We can't really expect investigators to be CSI-like "hmm.....must be because this person is smoking. Look Mac, a wet socks. Do you see the relevancies?"

Condolences to victim's relatives.

Have to be some honking big equipment not to be able to be carried on an RT BMW.

Yea....something like surveyor and rangefinder equipments with tripods matching certain standards perhaps.

Uh, and certified tape-meters, certified pens and certified notepads.

Don't forget they will need to bring the certifications and daily calibration records in case someone asks to see it, otherwise any tickets resulting from their investigation will not be valid

I have no Idea how much gear an investagator would need, but here is a quick list.
2 x cameras and lens, slr sized.
Tripod
meter long ruler for use in shots
rolling measureing wheel thingy
crowbar
small axe
hacksaw
a million of those tags with numbers on them.

Lots of other stuff too I imagine.
Hard job to do, I don't envy them.

Easy carry all that and more on an RT.

Still insisting...
I should've expected BMW rider to be very persistent...otherwise they would've chosen other brand for sure :kick:
