View Full Version : Watch out for the noob on a scooter

I'm a biker-to-be who is currently riding a dinky little Yahama Aprio around on a learner car license.

(This is the bit where you mock me for being a giant dork)

Most of the time when I'm not on a scooter I ride pillion on a DL650.

I hope to get my restricted in the next couple of weeks, and after that go for my bike learners. In the meantime I'm just a wannabe.

So hi, and stuff.

You have to start somewhere, and you have a plan to move on, go to it.

Welcome to the site. Plenty of useful pointers in these pages and plenty of people willing to pass on advice.

Heh, thanks :) I've been on my learners for over a year already, up until now I just didn't see the point in getting my restricted as I was only using it for my scooter.

But I figure it's time I stop being pathetic about it - a friend of mine went through merciless mocking after having to renew her learners after 10 years, and I could see myself heading in the same direction. :p

Hi. I started on a scooter (travel to work - cheaper than cage, cheaper AND less obnoxious than bus) and have found myself ... kinda ... creeping ... upwards. As it were.

Beware of scooters! They're a gateway drug to motorcycles!

Welcome :)

Dave

Clearly I am not up to his standards. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. :shake:

Can get some mean wheelies on scooters!!! and assisted burnouts!! You'll gain credibility points by not wearing a peanutshell helmet, and wearing teensy weensy miniskirt and top while riding...
Scooters crash too, so wear the gear...
Actually, some might say miniskirt etc is just fine... not me though LOL.
Welcome to KB

Welcome to kb, so wheres your rock located?

My rock is a travelling rock, commuting between Dunedin and Christchurch these days. In a month's time the rock should find itself a damp and mouldy little place in Christchurch where it can settle down for a while. The rock currently has to commute on a bus as going to Chch on a 50cc scooter is a little too adventurous.

I've got a nice K3 full face covering helmet and a padded bike jacket (not leather though) and an assortment of gloves. It's too damn windy and cold here to faff about in inadequate clothing anyway!

When I first test-rode the Aprio which was also my first time on a scooter, I did a wheelie by accident. The guy from McIver and Veitch (the bike store) had just finished telling my husband how my scooter was really easy to wheelie and woosh, up I went. I managed to stay in control and didn't drop it or come off, so that was at least something.

There's a generator here (http://www.interface-7.net/20030129/index.php?Tuisays=Speights+is+better+beer&Submit=Tui+Says...).

Admittedly it's not that great, but I think there are a few more about.

My friend rides a 150cc scooter motorbike on her bike learners. Get's her around a lot faster than a scooter but not as hard as a bike.

Welcome.
