was going to write the whole thing in me blog[juice] (http://blogjuice.kiwibiker.co.nz/), but since it's getting so close, and since I've got dirty big new discs on it (and aside from a few people asking), I thought I'd post up a couple of pics of where the bike is at, at the moment. There's two pics, of how I got the bike (20 July!!) and a couple of pics of where it's at as of today.

The new front discs were fitted, along with new brake pads, then the laborious task of pressurizing the system with brake fluid. With out the aid of a vacuum pump, something that can take a couple of hours. Well, 30 mins later, and we've got brakes :yeah: Considering they haven't worked for over a year, it worked bloody quick and well. And to get a perspective of what the previous owner treated the bike like, this is one of the pads from the front caliper. All the pads (including the rear) are like this, believe it or not, which is why it called for new discs (being at just under 4mm & 3.5mm thick, the limit being 4.5mm).

Not a lot more to finish up now, just fitting the lower fairing, airfilter fitted (should really order that), warrant and rego, and the beast is back, and then up for sale.

Tomorrow - it starts for the first time in a year.. just got to fit the new leads and double check it all, and we'll see if she goes :woohoo:

just felt excited and wanted to share ;)
Full report on the rebuild to come in blogjuice (http://blogjuice.kiwibiker.co.nz/) (plus a shameless plug :niceone:)

Those disks look like they could slice through any stray dog that happens to run out in front of you...

Very cool

Well done master juice. One thing I learnt from pulling things apart is eventually putting them back together and having the foresight not to do it again.

ok, so it starts, but not on cy2.. some basic checks show it's getting a spark, but just not firing. So I'll have to start pulling stuff apart some more. There's a bit more oil and darker shit in the carb of cy2 vs the rest, so might be more head related. Either way, just more fun to be had, figuring out why it's not running..

sorry to barge in your thread, but wondering where you scored the disks - I need a new set myself... LOoks good so far - you should keep it .. use it as a lazy track bike - will beat the pants of the K3 haha..

Nah, not at all.. the discs are from Graham @ Power Motorcycles (powermotorcycles@hotmail.com). Top bloke, both discs done and resent back within a few days at around $650 for a pair of new ones, the wavy ones like these are a little more. He's also got back ones for about $250 I think too.
Just need the bloody thing to go now, so I can break them in!!

Another point - Here's a dilemma: I need to do around 100 easy k's on the new brakes before I can use them normal/hard. But, the bike is off the road until it gets a CoF/WoF and rego. But I can't take it there, cos they'll hammer the brakes and fail it, cos they don't work properly yet. So how do I get the k's under its belt, so I can get it road legal?!?!
Some quiet runs up Old North Road I guess..

they will work good enough for the WOF test... AND..... Let me have a ride before you sell it...

you do know this bike has a clutch? And I value my balls that Chloe will remove for me..

The brakes are wooden, and really almost non-existant at the moment. I'll have to get the engine running properly cos walking speed doesn't really have much perspective on things, so we'll see. If it does just about stop, then I'll take it to a bike shop and hopefully they'll have the understanding that the brakes will eventually stop.

do it on the dyno buggy, because ya know, you wouldnt run them in on SH16 with it being so illegal and all :shifty:

if ya dont have the balls to do it because of the :Police: i dont mind doing it for you on a 'slow' run of the old highway when its not raining... (dont worry i got a decent ride in before i got wet!)

i rode the ZXR250 as a ratty for nearly two months before it got rego/wof and never had any problems, as long as it doesnt look suspect, and your not being acticing suspiciously then there shouldnt be anything to worry about.

Bugjuice - Good to see that you have finally put it all together...
Well done....

So is that going to be your track bike?

bugjuice
18th April 2006, 09:16
nope, once it's running, it'll be up for sale. If it was going to be a track bike, I wouldn't have put as much detail into it. But it'll help pay towards the next project that's already sat in the back waiting..

Gareth, how the hell would I break in front brake discs on a dyno?!?!

you had better do a couple wheelies and stuff before you sell it though. That there is an awesome stunt bike... and why is it not running properly.. did you clean the carbs out from months of stiiting around before putting them on?

bugjuice
18th April 2006, 09:43
yeah, I was going to pull the carbs out and clean them. Something I haven't done yet :o

it wouldn't make the best stunter cos of the notorious weak frame, and I need to sell it. You can buy it as a stunter if you want.. as soon as it leaves me, I can't really care too much..

Can I practice stoppies on it... just to make sure the brakes DO eventually work properly..

Oh yeh and clean them carbs out before you try and run her in cause you could fuck em good and proper if some of the jets / needles have shit in them
