View Full Version : Akl Thurs night NIGHT RIDE and Drinks 20th April @ 6.30pm

Qkchk
16th April 2006, 21:25
What: A ride in the Northern Valleys in da dark
When: Thursday night after work on the 20th April
Where: Meeting @ Shell Westgate (at the end of the North Western M/Way)
Why: Because there is more to motorcycling than just talking about it and its a good way to test your headlight!
Time: Meeting there from 6.30pm departing @ 7pm
Pace: Open to all

- Remember I dont want to see anyone turn up with a tinted/irridium visor on! Any chance to lessen the risks we take in our riding the better! (If you dont have a clear visor, may I suggest buying/borrowing a pair of clear saftey glasses and keep ya tint visor up....)

- Darkness = Slower speeds (self explained...)

- I'm doin the rides not for so much the riding itself (very limited with time and what you can do with it) but the social get-together at the Albany pub afterwards. So if you can't make the ride, try and make the pub and meet fellow Kbers! The route will be discussed on the night. For those worried about distance/time the ride will last for approx 1hr and is 70kms long. We start at Westgate and finish up at the old Albany Pub.

Remember this ride is WEATHER PERMITTING - I will post up in the thread if it is postponed due to weather. I will decide on the day and post after 5pm.

Disclaimer: You participate on this ride at your own risk. I will not be held accountable for anyones actions, to/from and during the ride.. Anyone who is caught endangering others by their actions will be asked to leave the ride and may be refused entry to forthcoming rides!

Ok peoples!

Ride is ON due to awesome weather outside! Lovely blue stuff and plenty of it!

Got a couple of new roads tonight for the experienced crew. We will re-group like we normally do @ Dairy Flat. Then the experienced riders (and I mean this :gob: - its a tricky bit of road in the daylight, let alone at night!) who wish to play in some 'tight stuff' can follow me and the rest can meet as @ the pub as norm.

So who's keen on some good corners in the dark? All mouses or men?

You, slow? stop talking shit young man :bash:

You're on a bike with 40 odd HP and a top speed somewhere around 190kmp/h

Try riding a 27HP (at the crank) Hyosung that stops pulling at 140kmp/h (160kmp/h down a hill or on the flat)

Then again, you might like the Hyosung and never go back... :blip:

It was a nice cruisey ride tonight and I enjoyed the variation in route.

Although I fucked up one corner, slightly, crossed the line.

Sort out a better pub next time aye, I was looking forward to a big steak.

EDIT: JSG good to see you are still alive after overtaking me on the inside of a right hand corner. Lucky those cars were a few seconds slower.

Inside?? As in pass you on the left?? Or do mean pass you using the other lane on your right??

Cos, I do remember an overtake on your right using the other lane:shutup: Yes those little white flashes I noticed through the bushes were a bit far away or I wouldn't have passed you. :innocent:

Don't start - you weren't there.

It was on a road I've ridden ten's of times the last time before tonight was on Sunday afternoon. The only way I could have been in danger was if there were cars speeding in the opposite direction with no lights on.

JSG - I saw the manouever as you passed Swanny and my reaction was that I am so used to you taking risks that the rest of us don't that I just shrugged. We talked about this last night, you know my thoughts.

In regards to finding a new destination, how about a motorcycle friendly pub such as the Kaukop Hotel or the Grand Hotel in Helensville?

Most establishments would cream their pants at the prospect of 10 - 30 people turning up each week.

Incidentally , did you know that if you follow Old North Rd, instead of turning into Peak Rd, you come out in Helensville. Good road it is , too.Good tucker at the Grand too, stopped there again yesterday.

Ixion
21st April 2006, 12:03
Beer is cheaper than the Kaucop pub ($4.50 for Speights at Kaucop, $4 at the Grand) , food is typical pub prices - $5 - $15 depending on . $15 bucks or so for a proper meal.

Sounds pretty good. Anyone else have suggestions?

EDIT: I know a cheap place with a Bar and Bistro that makes the biggest (and best tasting) burgers I've ever come across and they are very reasonably priced.

http://www.orewasurfclub.com/

My partners mother said that she manages the food side of things, so if people are keen on rolling into Orewa after a ride I'm sure they'd give us a good discount and make the effort to accomodate.

Just a warning, JSG.
I had a few people approach me last night saying that you almost ran in the back of me on the Wilks Road part of the ride, just after you passed Custard. "He looked like he was going to over-take you but then you moved over to take the next corner, shit it was close........"

Mate. You REALLY need to start thinking about your actions. I like you as a person but unfortunatly when you are riding like you have been, you are only creating enemies. If something had happened, you wouldnt of just had to deal with me, imagine having to deal with BlackBuell when he got back from his holiday to find you had done a silly act and had caused his bike to fall. Personally, I wouldn't like myself to be in those shoes myself, let alone you. You would also have Custard to deal with as well. Its bad enough having him off work let alone BOTH of us. Sure it's bad enough to have a bin, but when there is innocent parties involved it could get very messy!

So please, start to think seriously about what senior riders are saying. I dont want to see you in hospital or in a pine box. A dead squid aint goin to impress anyone and riding in that style aint either.

This is your first and only warning for the TNNR.:nono:

Everytime I hear a whining fuckin CBR250 spit past me in a stupid place and see Vikramtikka Raji doing the Peak Rd MotoGP in his humpback spermwhale suit (with or without condom) I wonder why I bother with KB rides anymore.

I have had the same conversation with numerous riders that I enjoy riding with, and the consensus is that it is becoming less fun each time cos there is always some twat on a lickle bike trying to prove himself.

I'm not anti 250, we've all been there, and some of them are great to ride with (the ones that get laid probably, get all the juice out of their system before hand) but when fuckknuckles get told week in week out that they are pissing somebody off and riding like a gimp, yet STILL ignore it all, I'm just waiting to see someone being hauled off by SpeedMedic's crew for some patching up in North Shore Hospital. Which is a shithole by the way. And it may not be the result of a bin.

I'm no angel but the dumb shit I have done was not on any organised ride and if people riding with me comment that I am being a clown I sure as fuck listen.

I like to piss people off online, not on the road.

It was on a road I've ridden ten's of times the last time before tonight was on Sunday afternoon. The only way I could have been in danger was if there were cars speeding in the opposite direction with no lights on.

The problem with public roads, especially country roads, is that you never know what is around the next corner.

EDIT: JSG good to see you are still alive after overtaking me on the inside of a right hand corner. Lucky those cars were a few seconds slower.

My original comment was a little bit of sarcism that wasn't conveyed properly. I'm not ammused or pissed off with you JSG, however it does raise some points I am going to make you aware of.

Lets run through two scenarios here, that COULD of occured, but fortunately did not and for which I'm sure some people are very greatful.

What could of happened?
Lets imagine a car that you did not see the headlights of came around the corner. You are on their side of the road, so naturally they would swurve to avoid you, possibly collecting you in the process as well. Guess who was meters behind you in the other lane? I would of more than likely been collected as well.

Another scenario, what happens if there was an animal on your side (the right lane) of the road which was spooked and ran into my lane?

What about if there was a stationary object on the road, such as a piece of wood or a large dead animal. Naturally you would have to swurve to miss it, with only meters in between us if you did swurve into my lane then in all likely hood you would of collected me or caused me to swurve off the road.

Lots of worst case scenarios, that luckily did not happen, but that is the shit you have to think about. You could of waited 2 seconds for the corner to pass then overtaken me on one of the many long straights as Jill did.

The problem is, who will explain to my little girl why her dad is 6ft under? What happens to my goals and dreams that involve the use of legs or arms when I don't have any?

I don't really care if I live or die. But it is those who are left behind that will have the questions and lack of understanding as to why you couldn't wait 2 seconds.

Same will go for your family if god forbid you are in a serious accident.

I've already told Shelly what I want as my headstone, the biggest hardcore chromed up V-Twin engine she can find with engravings on the side. Yep.

Just think dude. 2 seconds can make a difference.

Why do you guys keep telling him.. just knock the fucker out; Lesson learnt

Got sent to a few fine establishments for anger management. After the 3rd time the shit people preach starts to sink in.

Right, firstly I'm not apologising for that move.:nono: So I'm not offering an explanation - just stating the facts as I know them.

I had to accelerate that fast to pass custard who was cruising in his jeans and bare hands. I wasn't trying to over take you QkChk - only Custard.

Custard and whoever was behind you - Zed I think - can you both think back to last night - you'll remember that at no time was I directly behind QkChk I was about 3 feet to her right.

My bike has pretty decent brakes and as I slowed and took the corner I was at all points more than 6 feet away from the Buell, even when it failed to take the corner. Come on guys take the bloody angry mob hats off and you'll remember it.

I think I need to find some newer roads to explore on my own - see you guys online only for a while.

Despite who may win or loose.

Ok I wasn't on this ride... so I won't comment on the ride itself
But I will comment on night riding situations..

There is always going to be some idiot that drives at night without their lights on... and it happens a lot (I even saw it happen tonight when I was coming home from Old North/Peak Rd tonight).

What would happen if that was to happen when someone overtakes on a corner thinking that there is no cars coming towards them...??????

BANG CRASH Bike down and rider either DEAD or badly injured... The car smashed up and maybe the driver injuried or even DEAD.
Other riders nearby... DEAD or badly injured.

So please everyone NEVER presume that there is nothing, coming towards you, from the other side of the road at night time.

Stay on your own side of the road.. to live longer.

Please all take care out there on the roads and stay safe.

As for you and me fighting, i'm happy as we are but let it be known if you do it to me you will get a smack in the heeeeed.. no questions asked; and when you realise what you've done then i'm happy to use what ever rules you want!

in fact talking of simple boxing rules.. why don't you apply simple rules to the way you ride and respect other peoples right to be safe on a public road/ride? look back and consider how many times people have commented.. either to your face or on here.. it's not a one of , is it?

Not fighting - sparring - it's different and fun - but I'm hopelessly rusty.

Yup - if I screw up you're welcome to give me a thump as I'd deserve it.

I like the buzz from cutting things that fine.....I feel completely safe doing it and always do it under full control - however I realise I can't control others who may panic and or not be prepared to have someone pass them. Swanny too makes some good "what if" points.

So I guess it's best I ride by myself for a while.

OK - enough about me now - I'm sure there are more people to talk about. I'm off to ride on my own :spudwave:

since when is 6 feet enough clearance?

going round corners

at speed

in the dark

on new roads

when the person in front doesn't expect you to be there?

doesn't make much sense to me...

Riding on your own and doing that sort of thing is the best option then. That would show to me at least that you're taking everyone elses safety into consideration. However, the implications on any other vehicles you may cause an accident with is another issue.

The Thursday Night ride is a social thing (well thats my perception), its not a race or anything of the sort, although it does turn into that on the rare occasion.

If you want to go along, as with any other ride, gauge the pace and mood of the ride, if you can't conform to it then just don't go.

I'm not gonna be on any public KB organised rides for a month - that's my self imposed public KB organised group ride curfew -

But if you see me on the road - you're welcome to try.

We're the same height and weight so it'll be fun, how bout following simple boxing rules :blip:

However - no hard feelings or grudges allowed afterwards. :nono:

Do we sign up for this somewhere. :innocent:

JSG, the point is not to stop going on the kb rides but to respect others.. even if you dont yourself or believe you have control. Ride safe, ride a long time;

Well weren't you a professional "peacekeeper" -- don't think I want to spar with you.

Look I need a new head guard - so if you can buy me a decent one, by EVERLAST or something of equal quality - you're welcome to have one swing -but not hard enough to give me a concussion and I don't want my pretty nose or jaw broken either.:nono:

Oh and I want you to be wearing at least 14 ounce mitts - you can use mine if you want.

No!!! the offer isn't open to the rest of KB, so don't ask.

P.S: Sheesh mate, you're request makes me think about how much I've neglected my fitness lately....... must try and get into shape soon.

Hey Sixpack - I've told you all I'm gonna leave you in peace for a while and I'm perfectly happy as I told Boomer to get a knock if I'm still found misbehaving. So why don't you give it a rest.

You're a petty coward who can't talk face to face and prefers to hide behind his keyboard, you're also the biggest God hating pervert I know - why would I want to be friends with you??

Drop the nagging bitch act - unless it's impressing your boyfriends :wait:
-------------------------

Hey GR81

Horrible isn't it when, people can't stop bitching and moaning, no balls to talk face to face.

Just bitch and moan on the net wasting bandwidth ....I think I've said enough on the matter

If you get a chance you guys should come on these Thursday night rides - they are awesome rides on great roads with great company (don't worry I won't be there). It will give those of you with little night riding experience the opportunity to build your skills and get more confident in the dark and there will be a hot coffee or cold beer waiting for you at the end of a ride.

Now that Im sick (and probably others are too) of the bad riding bashing I would like to answer some other comments earlier.

Yes I am looking into changing the Thurs night ride in the North to maybe an alternate with a ride out south. Its in the planning stages so give it a couple of weeks.......

This week coming (27th) we will be meeting @ Lincoln Road Mobil so look at the new thread for directions - so make sure you read the thread right and go to the right place! Have a looky here;
