Here I am this afternoon showing my bike to one of my mates who hasn't seen it before. How come thats like that? Pointing to the fairing.
F%$*, a big chunk of my faring just by the gear shifter is completly snapped off from the rest of it. Then i the honda sticker on the bottom fairing has half lifted off and all bubbly. :angry2: :angry2:
So I take off the fairing to find it broken in 3 places, 2 of which are clean breaks and the other is about 15-20mm from going right through it. Don't have a clue how they happened, but I am pretty sure they are stress fractures, but maybe not.
The sticker seems to have had some oily substance drip onto it from the crank cover that sticks out from the side, and when it was on it's side stand it has dripped down the fairing and tracked along the sticker to make a big eyesore. ARGH.
Well that is really gay, hopefully I can get it plastic welded and it won't look too bad. I just want to find out what made it happen.

Does it look like its been repaired before? Otherwise can only be some prick has hit it while you weren't looking or it has cracked from stress (but that is unlikely to that extent unless it had been damage previously) while you've been riding.

Have you had it in to get tyres done or mechanicial work done and left it there lately?

Thats pretty crap i have found stress fractures on mine up on the top fairing and a piece in behind the brake lever is clean gone (small bit thou so cant even notice it missing), still wonder where and when it disappeared thou. Sounds like something more than stress to do that thou.

Yeah, someone could have knocked it while it has been parked. I only noticed it today so it could have been like that since last wednesday when i washed it, so i definately would have noticed it then.
But i did clean and oil my chain on monday and i didn't notice it then, but it looks as though it has been a chain reaction. The first crack went right through thus putting too much pressure on the bolt that is right at the front behind the front wheel, and thus making the other crack. There is also a fairly decent piece missing from the bottom the bends round to the side.
Looks like i'm off to the fairing welder tomorrow then. Hopefully it doesn't cost too much.

bummer, I had a new suzuki scooter that had it's fairings fracture shortly after I bought it, I would imagine if they were prone to stress fractures it would have done it long ago, it's 12 years old after all, I think some jerk hit your bike and didn't stick around to own up, the only other thing is you may have over tightened a few bolts and caused a stress fracture perhaps, but that would be likely to be on all of them not just some, I hope all goes well with the plastic welding, post back how much it cost and what sort of job the guy does. cheers Lucy

I am pretty sure that no one hit it, cause there are no marks or scratches around the area. Might just be from me over tightening some bolts. But i haven't have that fairing off since i bought the bike, which is over 4000kms ago. So it beats me, ohh well off to the plastic welder tomorrow. Hopefully i can get it done for cheap.

Sorry to hear about the damage K14. If your talking about the lower fairing, under your bike then maybe it was caused by dropping off a kerb or hitting a speed bump (at speed). Maybe I'm just talking crap but .... 2c worth and all that.

Nah, i am pretty sure i know how it happened now.
I think the bolt (right by the big break) snapped the bit it holds off the fairing, leaving the bolt intact with some fairing around it. This caused too much stress on the rest of the fairing, making the big break. This causing too much stress on the front making the other crack.
Ohh well, off to get a quote now. Hopefully it doesn't cost too much. Sucks to be a student.

Well i just got back from the plastic welding place. Quoted me $45, so that is sweet.
But now i have another problem. I found that my carbs are leaking and that is the reason the sticker has lifted, from the petrol. Another problem, argh, when will this stop.

leaky carbs shouldnt be too much of a problem--pull em out and give em a good clean out.
