Went over to Akaroa with Lou and the lads last Sunday 16 and was surprised get a surcharge on drink and food. I was under the impression that this was only applicable for public holidays and as far as I know Sun 16 was not a public holiday. Anyone else get collared with this and is it legal??

I think you will find that Easter Sunday is a legit public holiday and penal rates apply. (the day Jesus rose from the dead - quite an important day for Christians....and those whose Parliment is based on Christian principles - that would be us in NZ)

Easter Sunday is NOT a stautary holiday under the Holdays act. The act as written stilla ssumes that everyone has sunday off, so its not neccessary to list it as a holiday. Too bad for those who have to work it as there is no penal rate and no day in lieu either.
So there is also no reason to pay a surcharge.

if you had to work on sat or sun it still fucks your 4 day weekend , i wouldnt even consider complaining about a surcharge if it went to those that served and cooked for you, personally i think everything but emergency services and gas stations should close and make it optional for dairy owners
