Quite!

A nasty synthetic one at that! In the old days we would have used a cabin trunk or a proper leather one! Hardly very dignified disposing of ones bodies in a nasty plastic (probably imported) case!

On the other hand!

Chinese student? Hmmm! Riiiggghhht! More to this story than meets the eye methinks!! I'd suspect triads but they would hardly be so clumsy as to NOT chuck a few concrete blocks in their as well? Sheesh!

Maybe the government knocked him off. Probably because he plain refused to become a beneficiary. The government aren't interested in working immigrants or refugees.

On Friday my sisters flight to Chch was delayed cause of fog... after 2 and a half hours waiting they got to board... then they had to wait 45 minutes for passengers.... 6 chinese people. When we heard this on the news we joked about how they found 180 stab wounds on the person... 1 for each person on the plane... yet the other 5 were yet to be found.

Yeah ok not quite so PC but hey! Did they think the plane would wait 3 hours for them and they would get away with it!

Dead before he was put in the case, stab wounds etc - sounds like his own countrymen did the job IMHO.

It made me think that it's not the kind of "send off" you would get unless you really, really deserved it.

I am prepared to be proved wrong as the facts emerge though.

Don't know the facts yet. Reckon there may well be the airing of some very dirty laundry though.

What I'd like to know is if the perpetrators bought the suitcase first and then went trolling for somebody of the right dimensions to populate it, or whether they knocked this dude off and then took him to Lands For Bags to find something that would fit...

I always keep a spare suitcase handy. Just in case....

Well I for one would have to buy the case post-mortem. I have a crap eye for scale and besides... they all look the same to me anyway.

I'm the first one to take the piss and be totaly un PC but I find it funny how kiwi's are actually quite racist. If it were a moari in the suitcase, you lot wouldn't be going on like this. Granted, a maori wouldn't fit in a suitcase but you get my drift.

It was a kidnapping.

More of a splash than a drift Finn. However I agree in as much if it was a maori the remarks would have been eqully racist with Treaty comments. Yours was with Maori health issues.

However some kid died and as such such racist remarks are in poor tast no matter the culture. And he died for what?? So more of our tax dollars are spent on the justice system putting more asians in the dock. It's no wonder some comments have a racist bias. Made the odd comment to that effect myself. But are New Zealanders racist?

Traditionaly no. Our culture was at one time one of tolerance. That tolerance has been severly put to the test over two issues. Treaty settlements etc and immagration policies of both National andl Labour. Both of which involve two distinct 'cultures.'

Treaty issues aside what has happened is that New Zealand has been 'swamped' by immigrants, mostly asian. I am of the opinion that what now goes as racist comments is the result of frustration over a changing demography in which the residents of this country had no say whatsoever.

I've got to say that when I first heard about this, I was hoping he was a drug runner or a prostitute smuggler or something. I could just flick the switch in my head hard to the "right" and say "That's what you get - good job sucker".

It is starting to look like the guy might have been guilty of unwisely mentioning to the wrong person that his parents had a few shekels back home - that's all. I can squeeze a giggle out about it out now, but feel sort of ashamed afterwards.

Anyone else get the same feeling or have I just gone soft?

Nah! I feel the same way. Sounds like he was a standup guy that got a raw deal. btw - this is NOT racist. I work for a japanese company and have worked with asian people all my life. However, there is an element in all societies and some societies seem to drag this element with them where ever they go. Think of the huge numbers of malaysian students that have been here over the years.. Not usually much trouble there.... Chinese students? Violence is a way of life...

Based on the media coverage it appears to be a kidnapping that went wrong. His parents were apparently sent a ransom note but his abductors decided to top him before the ransom note arrived at its destination.

Good on the cops for making arrests on this one so quickly.

As hitch said - good work by the blue brigade.

My only issue is that non residents get tried and locked up at the resident's expense. Race ain't the issue here - it's nationality (for those that can make the distinction)

Guilty?? Send 'em home. I think we need a reciprocal sentencing arrangement. Kiwis that do wrong overseas get sent home and punished, likewise those committing crimes elsewhere get sent home and punished.

The tough part is - which sentence do you impose - stealing an apple and getting shipped back to NZ to have your hands cut off won't go down too well, likewise anyone getting shipped back to their home lands and being told - "aaaaa who cares", a $40 fine and being sent on their way for killing someone...

...And didn't some idiot judge allow a another kidnapper to stay in NZ recently even after he came out of prison. We are such suckers. This case shows why we should have a very low tolerance of this type of crime.

Mind you, NZ Police have had a high success rate with kidnapping so the incentive to try to pull this stunt is not quite the same as it is in other countries.

I think you're right. Perhaps it's a case of everywhere south of the Bombay's having the perception of Auckland becoming a mini Shanghai, with a new foreign sub-culture living the high life in our country, disrespecting our laws.

I think myself pretty lucky to be born a NZer and get pissed off at the growing number of incidents such as these kidnappers/murderers. If you want to live life like that, fuck off somewhere else, like Sydney.

Having bleated about that, I felt ashamed when Birgit Brauer got murdered here by a Kiwi. It just goes to show that we as a race/nation are no better than others, I just wonder how many murders/kidnappings are commited in China every year by Nzer's??
