who should my old man go to about reconditioning his fj1200?
its using alot of petrol, is there any reason for it to go through gas at highway speeds? other than his semi heavy throttle use?
cheers guys

'Twere a work of supererogation. They never wear out. Tell him to fit a heavier throttle return spring, guaranteed to reduce fuel consumption 20% (The converse, a lighter throttle spring increases power by 10% and top speed by 15mph. Good for £10 that was in my father's day.)

Unless it's sucking gobs of oil, why would you go to the expense of a rebuild? Chances are a set of plugs, new airfilter, oil & filter will work wonders. Perhaps check the carbs are balanced. Oh - and that the brakes aren't binding.

The boys are right. Not much point in a full recondition. Carb balance, valve adjustment (if required), fluid changes (gearbox, brakes), perhaps new chain and sprockets, check tyres and you should be ready to go.
The old air cooled four strokes are pretty indestructible as long as the oil is changed and checked regularly.

The emulsion tubes are likely worn oval, check the factorypro.com site & search.
Apart from that too expensive to do anything else worthwhile.

To wear out an FJ1200 it must of done at least 500,000kms,they are almost impossible to kill.

These posts are all good advice, I worked for Brisbane Yamaha years ago (They used to call themselves the 'Home of FJ's), and the bikes there get huge mileage on them. Never seen one need it done.
