Southbound m'way, Murphy st off-ramp.
The 5-0 are picking off bikes exiting the motorway onto the Murphy st offramp.
2 bikes sped off behind a red 900ss and a yellow gsx600f about 10min ago, while a young lady on a black gn250 was getting a telling off in the carpark by halswell st.

The south island ones are spoil sports. As soon as you are over 50 they just tell you to slow down, they don't tell you how fast you are going

D'you think any Wellington residents have made large and widely discussed Internet postings on the subject of doing runners from the police?
Nah, can't be it.

Yeah, I wonder what bike they could be after? I bet it's not my one, cos they're way late, I don't do lunch time gigs, and I have a plate! I can even see it from here ;)
That speed sign is a pain, it "slow"s at 60 I think. In saying that, it's a blind corner heading toward a couple of schools and an exit from a supermarket. Even ungoverned I doubt the scores would be high.
Edit: and since I need to be really specific on this site, my bike has been continuously parked for the last five hours. Maybe they're just doing normal traffic policing work that normal traffic police do?

Thats where I got busted a few weeks ago. They also like to hang out on the space just before the Aotea Quay off ramp. Personally I think they are there cause it is close to the police station and not far to go home once they have got enough for the day

On my Gold GSX600F about 11.50am coming back from TSS motorcycles, and yes its a great day be out and about. I usually come off the Aotea ramp but for some reason went through the Terrace tunnel for a change. Prefer the ramp because these less town to go through, just head all the way around to the Wellington New World intersection, up Kent terrace and south . Never saw a thing. I am on holiday so not in any great rush though I wasnt crawling either. Strange though..... I didnt have a WOF on the way up and therefore was a bit pissed off when some blonde in a BMW tried to side swipe me before the terrace tunnel - just like what happened to that guy the other day but on the southern end. I indicated to change lane, started to and she put her foot down and nearly collected me on the left inside lane. the BitcJ.
Gee.... I have survived 35 years but it seems theres one close call each day I go out on these Wellington roads. Is it just me or are drivers just not giving way anymore?

Wellington drivers mate - they are the worst I have seen and I have travelled much of the world!!

They just seem to be lacking basic skills. I am always courteous to others and allow cars to change lanes around road works etc but just today, and this is typical, I went to change lanes and was cut off by cars several times whom didnt allow me to complete the lane change. One was a close call.
The fact is that I indicated for five seconds, begun the move and then had to cancel it because these ass event horizons actually sped up to stop me. The 600 isnt a slow beastie but I wonder how someone on a little GN or similar would come out of it without the extra braking and power. I understand lane changing isnt a popular issue on this forum but I am reading the same story from other Wellington riders at least here. Is one of our MOT members reading this per chance ?????

I think thats why kiwi's have the 'give way to people turning' rule as no bugger would bother out of courtesy otherwise

I am seriously thinking about giving up my elderly promise to my aching body and just revert to argo biker again, just to get in front of all these rider mowers. I never use to split lanes that much but now its becoming a matter of survival and I joke not.

Ah, yes, I saw one there on the opposite side of the motorway when I was heading back into The Hutt today. Flat on the tank, doing [a speed], I guess he was only interested in people he could pull over, being stopped by a rather hefty median barrier....he didn't flinch, but I watched myself from then on! I have no idea what the MO is, they might have all sorts of scary radio thingies.

keeping an eye on us indangered species?? After the loss of three fellow riders over Easter and the media attention, they may be just enforcing the law to keep us on our toes which is fair enough EXCEPT I wish they were around when the rider mowers are doing their thing....

Watch out for a hell of alot of unmarked road works around Wellington at present. I mean where they havent finished filling in pipe works and resealing them over and no cones to warn you in advance. Several were quite deep. Lots of loose gravel on some of the sections too.

The trick is finding that fine line between being so aggressive you're an accident waiting to happen, and being such a pussy that cagers et al are lining up to kill ya. Lanesplitting might be in Darwin's How To Vol. 1, but sitting there minding your own business is on the next page. A modicum of aggression combined with a truckload of common sense I think is a nice balance. So I've been told...

I have been in my cage a couple of times over the past week whilst on holiday and I swear I have never seen so much crap driving by those around me in such a short time. I put this down to the fact that it was a holiday weekend, so a lot more people on the road than when I am usually in my cage during business hours. I suspect too that I noticed a lot more dickhead driving due to the fact that I was driving a box, legally and quietly and many of my fellow motorists simply disrespected my space. I hardly ever get cut-off etc. on the bike, I think because I don't give them the chance. I think I have found that fine line and agree with madboy.
As for the coppers on the motorway, would you have jumped in the dunnydoor thismorning?? Today was bikes, tomorrow 4WD vehicles??

I would have thought so. With a couple of schools and a supermarket feeding onto it (I've only just worked out where it is) it sounds like traffic policing work that they wouldn't have had to do had the town planning work been done properly.
They're not looking for you - was kidding. Besides, everyone knows your bike ... Great big mid 80's BMW with all red fairings on one side and all yellow on the other. Can't miss it. Off you go rozzers, gettim!
Dave
BTW, I know I should be off on TCWNR. And yes, I am at work. Yes, it is important. No, I don't want to be here. Yes, I will shut up now and get back to it.
