Fucking HORN!
I had a ZIR TC years ago, made me poo my pants EVERY time I rode it.
It's the only bike I've ever owned out of god knows how many I've had, that I REGRET selling.
Turbo power rules.

A ZIR TC?
If it's a genuine one, and a tidy original bike, BUY it.
They're worth huge money in the States (cause that's where they were born).
The original Sky Blue ones are worth a tad more, although there were only a couple in NZ. The Black ones with the yellow, orange and red stripes sure looked nastier though.
Let me know if it's the real McCoy and you don't want it, I'd love another one.

Sick, but good.
Took my TC to Brisbane with me, got put in touch with a guy that drag raced turbo Kawasaki's. We got it to the stage where we could run close to 20lbs boost with the help of water and methanol inj, thought nothing could touch it.
Until the day some geezer on an 1100 Kat pulled up next to me at a set of lights....didn't notice it was fitted with a turbo unit (was on the wrong side of him). By the time I was in third thinking "later", he went by me so fast it nearly sucked the headlight clean outta my old girl.
I would've asked him (or her for that matter) what the fuck was going on 'in there' if only I could've caught up!

Ahhh, frame by Fritz Egli, the legendary frame builder, who only made those horrid rigid backbone frames.

It may well be one.
All TC's were MK1 ZIR's (round cam cover ends) and the were built by ATP.
The one in your picture I think you'll find is David Blackmores, he imported it from the States.
ATP had a deal with KHI where they NEVER made the exact kits avail for sale to the public, to stop people building 'reps'.
The guys not quite right in saying only 250 were built.
In 1978 they built 500 (all Original Sky Blue), and they sold out so quickly they built another 1000 for '79' (although all still MK1 78's) with the Black and striped colour scheme). The ones that came to NZ were all just Blue ones still in crates with the kits packaged inside, and were built here.
Brian from Cycle colour painted them black and applied the decal kits.

What looked like a genuine TC surfaced on Trade Me a couple of weeks ago, imported from the States and real low miles on it, the same guy also had a 1979 CBX1000 with about 1500 miles on it, both were advertised for about $20K, just fishing around to see what sort of interest I think, the auctions looked to have been pulled pretty quick, think the guy got sick of answering all the tyre kicker emails, you know, "I had one of those and blah blah blah...)

Never forgiven myself mate.
I swapped mine when I was in Brisbane for an RS 250 and 2k.
The guy who had an import/export business (hence the RS250) sent mine back to Japan and collected 15k for it.
And they are definately worth more in the States (they weren't built in Japan)
The RS 250 I got was worth around 8k.
Can you spell LOOSER? (insert MY name).
I still want it back.

It has the ATP turbo kit on it but is only a 900 and is the earlier tank and rear styling than the Z1R

I haven't seen the bike and couldn't quite see what it was wearing bodywork wise in the pics.
But you're right, for sure looks like the genuine ATP kit.
Complete with the totally useless wastegate that jams shut from time to time and turns your motor into a hand grenade!

Hi again. I remember talking to a mate whom test rode a Kawie turbo late 1970's from memory. He took it for a spin from Whangarei to the Ruakaka straights and opened her up in top gear. As she passed the 100mph+ mark she wheel stood and freaked him right out. Remember we are talking about a time when very few bikers regularly travelled faster than 60 mph & few bikes got close to 200kph. I wont go into the handling at that speed because you just held on and hoped you didnt bottomout in a pothole. Suspension was rubbish 25 years ago. For some reason or other he decided NOT to buy the bike.

actually i had a 79 Z1R non turbo in 1980 and went everywhere at 160 ks plus on the open rd. I hope the TC had something done to the brakes cause the front ones didnt work in the wet.

Sirree mate, dead stock ZIR with an over sized RyJay turbo slapped on it.
They didn't even lower the com, hence they only ran low boost stock.
You've gotta love the feel of those cable operated front brakes eh?
The rotors had far too much stainless in them to work properly when wet, in fact it felt like you'd accelerated when you gave them a squeeze eh!

I would've done likewise mate if it wasn't for the fact that I was always hanging on for dear life and needed all available fingers rapped 'round the grip!
