View Full Version : Canterbury: CHCH to Akoroa (22nd, 23rd or 25th)

20th April 2006, 09:17
Looks to be some interest in going to Akoroa over the coming weekend so it was suggested to start a 'ride' thread proper.

Who's keen for a trip over? I'm flexible on both day and time.

Trust me mate, I'll be riding like a total nana. Aside from the 'run in' restrictions, it's new to me in many ways so I'll be taking it very easy.

Well as a suggestion for a meeting place we could gather up in the carpark at the sign of the kiwi restaurant about lunchtime.

I think we just need to concrete something :) But on the weekend seems to be the better bet, but around the port's there will be many many bikers, so our lil convoy *will* grow :)

No restaurant at the Kiwi... do you mean Takahe? either place isn't bike user friendly. Try over thr rd from PMH, by the river.

I was thinking about taking a ride over that way anyways in the weekend, and stumbled on this thread, so I will keep me eye on the detail, and if it works, it would be good to travel with other two wheelers.

Either day for me should be a go'er, but with kids anything can happen... :o)

Yeah gotta say what a frekin good day for a ride, rain and wind in Rangiora first thing this morning, had me wonderin if it it was going to be a goer.

Where is Autum? musta been about 24 degrees or so.

Great to meet some of the people of KB, even though names have almost gone from my mind, user names and real names makes it all a bit daunting.
Even though I was a quiet first timer, I had a great time and good to get a bit more time in the saddle of me Griso.

I will sure to keep an eye out for future rides.

Aaron sweet idea of yours to get a ride togeather today... mate that k6 600 of yours is the mutts nutts :first:

The ride was as per you would expect with 17 odd bikes plus pillions.
However when we left Little river some dick mentioned about a LeMans start as we hit the hills see this thread for pic's http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?p=587359#post587359

Up n over the hill and Bren myself the guy on the 750 SPARD (who were you again?) Yamama and Ham pulled up behind a copper.... It seemed that I was the only rider that thought fuk this and blew past him... what happened to you other lot, too chicken to pass a pig huh :bleh:

A bite to eat at akaroa spin a bit of bull then we headed back leaving the Diddles and Co to head off south home.

Now it is kinda compulsary to stop in at the Wheatsheaf for a beer/coke and spin more bull, now it is also the place were we do most of our test riding on each others bikes.

Bren on the XB12 and tuono and Deisel Pig on the XB12, now its always funny watching people leave on the XB12 for the 1st time... so timid and un sure of a bike with such a difference... but on there return they are grinning ear to ear and screaming "fuk thats fun"
A classic example of this was deisel Pig check out the pic of his return dust n shingle in all directions

At this point we all went our separate ways and thats that

The roads were a mess on the way over with flooding, slips and general debris everywhere but improved heaps from Arthers pass onwards.
Had a little bit of drama just out of littleton on the return trip, The young chap on the GSF250 dropped his bike 1/2 way though an overtake, looks as tho it's more damage to his pride than to his body thankfully, The bike and gear will take abit more time to get sorted tho.

Well today was an experience that I am not sure I want to repeat - sorry DP. I turned up at the meeting point on the Aprilia (SR50), I think the odd person was worried I would be following the group!!!! I just wanted to see the bikes, take some pics etc. It was such a nice day I decided to see if I could find a comfy pillion seat. Dieselpigs Suzuki GSX1100 had a great looking seat. he said he would take me. The seat was comfy, the ride over was cool - scraped the centre stand both sides. Coming home I was scared, terrified. Now I am not a nancy girl and I have been on the back of my old 7560F with an utter maniac twistie demon (from Akaroa to CHCH) and enjoyed it, but DP was special. I now know why he has never had anyone repeat the pillion experience with him!!! I know he knows what he is doing, I know he rides well on the track, but I was scared. Went on the back of Adam_B's Ducati from the Wheatsheaf to where the scooter was aprked. A very different experience - feel the good vibrations!!!:msn-wink:
Can't wait to get my bike back.

well its been said by everyone, but i just have to repeat it again... AWESOME day! :spudflip:

Started off playing tail end charlie to make sure we all got off alright... Its funny being at the back and watching the guys work their way thru traffic, and then having the fun of having to catch up :msn-wink:
Decided to have a wee blat before Little river tho, hope i didnt make anyone nervous as the Buell blasted past... hehehe I think Dangerous was surprised to see me behind him tho....glad the cops were in front thats all I can say.

Then I had to play catch up again after taking some shots of the group before heading up the hill. Altho i must say the roads were surprisingly clear, think it was the best run I have had up and down there for ages, the cars musta scattered before the bike onslaught, great for me!
Caught a few by Barrys bay and then onto Akers, just a beaut trip, apart from the odd gust of NW wind trying to take me out.
Very nice to meet some of the newer folk, and some of the not so new, eh TWR :bleh:
heres a few pics of the bikes on the road...

Hey there all,

Big thanks to Aaron for getting the ball rolling for the ride, and sweet ride you have yourself there !

And Diddle & co for the entertaining start to the day , especially riding up on the sight of 2 guys wrestling a XJ750 that wanted to lay down for a rest
And a good wee jaunt through the back roads into PM hospital to meet the rest of the KB crew.

Ha Dangerous , wanker mmm nah just a funny wee ginga :bleh:

Felt sorry for the bloke on the Triumph Bonnie, he must have thought we were stalking him there at the beginning of the ride.

The Le Man's start at Littleriver, haha odd how some bikes were able to start themselves & wait patiently for their pilots to arrive mmm

Apart from the traffic the run up the hill was great, been 10yrs since I've been over there on 2wheels so was rusty as buggery. The dude on the SRAD750 (?? name ) ran upto the top with me & managed to complete a crazy looking passing manouver on a 4x4 ( think he was almost checking bugs on the bumper of the car coming the other way:eek: ).
Shit Akaroa was busy, annoyed there was such crowd in the chippies, that was always a compolsary feed.

The return, Rashika mmm thought Buell's had more tit than that going up hills :bleh: and lols what was the 110kmh then upto 140 on the way back around to the black tulip ?, the convoy felt like a slinky  . Got to get myself a new Visor now after being drilled by a stone off Thunder's rear tire & lols Thunder, those brake lights work but in funny places though :bleh:

Bad news to hear about Foxrider's incident, hope nothing to major.
Smokin, top effort coming over the divide to attend.
Great pics, all who took them !
Oh and Dangerous ha still waiting for the :finger: :bleh:

Unpredictable lols, that'll ease with time.

Thought you were almost at the point of stopping to crack some heads of the cars that decided to do the last minute "shit better get out of the road manouvers" in front you a couple of times though.

Ha the wind , mmm a decent screen helps :bleh:

yeah true... thats the thing 'till I get to know riders a little bit and how they will react if I or someone else balls things up, I'd rather have them in front.... at least i can know what I will do...errr...generally anyway. Tho it does make for interesting riding with you lot behind <_< wonder why you always wanna follow me? :msn-wink:

:) ahhh I just remembered the first incident; some twat in a car pulled out, extremely slowly I must say for a 100km area, in front of the car in front of me, probably annoyed both me and the car driver I suspect, but ya get that eh? Annoying at the time and all ya can do is the head shake really, but as long as they dont do something else stoopid then I'll live with it. :msn-wink:

After that I actually had one of the better trips over the hill, only acouple of cars to pass, beaut!
Better than last time when Thunder and I got chased up the hill by a porsche....damn that was funny! Then passed him downhill, he passed when we stopped and passed him again later. Nice car, and he was actually driving safely, tho quick. I rather have someone like that on my tail and even let him past, than some idiot outdriving his cars capabilities and who will prob end up killing me (and i will ALWAYS let that sorta retard past if I can, rather be alive when all is said and done)... and if I'm going to get passed by a car, at least it is a decent vehicle.
