The other Week I was unfortunate to have a fall off my 92' zxr750j2. I got up and walked away but as for it was still drivable. smashed up the front and right side fairing.

so the next day I toke it into a bike show to get it checked over and a repair cost. for a new front fairing was $1,300 and a side was $900. I was shocked by the cost but not knowing any better I order in a new front and left the side one out for now.

What really pissed me off was, I was looking a around nz sites and found one that that did the same fairing a $250 and $450 for a set of side ones.

what is better to put on Genuine fairings or a just as good set make here in nz?

www.justfairings.co.nz will do unpainted and prepped fairings for a fraction of the price. I would tell them to cancel the order (if you still can) and source your own. Its a shed load cheaper as you even saw

You could always have a look on ebay as well, can be quite cheap for genuine stuff but freight may be pricey, still cheaper than new genuine in NZ though.

If insurance are paying then get the genuine ones. If you are paying then get the NZ made ones.

I chatted to the guy a while back. Apparently he can make other stuff, within reason. I have seen a set of Just fairings mate. Not too shabby either.

yep, had a top fairing for my old bike, a zzr250. Great guy to deal with, answers questions etc.

Wouldn't have a problem dealing with him again. Fairings are often the first to take the hit in an accident, so secondhand are almost out of the question. If one is available, it would cost as much, or more than the fibreglass ones (and probably in worse condition). And there is a waiting list usually as well.

Plastic are nice, but not when they charge that much

Once its painted, you dont really notice it unless your racing as it is abit heavier.
Soon my bikes going to be more fibre glass than pastic as Im ordering another panel for it. (Cant be bothered sanding the current one)

Plastics are great. They fit great, the holes line up, they've got perfect lines, and have better edges etc etc, just quality all round. As they should be for the bloody price. In all my short years, I've never seen a fibreglass set that can mix it up with plastics, although glass ones are still usually pretty good. Some however are downright nasty... thing, ill fitting, crappy edges, just bloody horrible. At least with your super expensive plastics, you know what you're getting :)
