I have here my April edition, and it's already been decided:

1st 1994 Ducati 916 WSB racer
2nd = 1998 Yamaha YZF-R1
2nd = 1992 Honda Fireblade
4th Britten V1000
5th Suzuki GSXR750
6th Honda RCV211V
7th Tony Scott Honda RC30
8th Yamaha YZR500
9th Harris Turbo Special
10th Kawasaki ZX-6R

And I have the May edition here too. They've sold me on the GSXR750K6, and I don't like Suzukis..

ZX6R is a bit of a surprise - its in pretty esteemed company for a newish bike.

Forgive me if I am being dumb, but whats the Harris Turbo Special? Never heard of it, and google didnt come up with too much.Your are forgiven. It's a British mag, so it has British stuff in it. Harris make bike frames, and other bits.

Harris frames were apparently popular in the UK in the 80s because they thought the handling of their fast bikes was deficient (I've never ridden a 1987 GSXR750, but it does look like a spindly son-of-a-bitch, so it probably was scary). I guess bikes had engines way better than their frames, so people stuck good Jap engines in good Brit frames to get bikes that were fast and didn't wobble around corners.

Lookie (https://www.harris-performance.com/website/acatalog/index.html?https%3A//www.harris-performance.com/website/acatalog/Harris_Frame_Kits.html&CatalogBody) They still make frames for oil cooled GSXR750/1100 engines! They look cool too.

Thanks for that, cant see any references to a "Turbo Special" but presumably thats a model they did some time ago.

If its the one I'm thinking of, it was monthly write up on building one from scratch. Was an over-bored (1200??) turbo charged streetfighter style GSXR1100. Built by some mad bastard (Steve Burns I think). Looked pretty mint too. God knows what is was like hanging onto an unfaired Turbo'd & bored out GSXR1100 at full tit.

my understanding was that he took a relatively standard Gixxer motor, plopped it in a Harris frame, and bolted on a bloody big turbo. custom pipes that went over the engine and fuel in a belly tank under it (it didnt work for shit on Spencer's NSR500.......). lots o' special bits and there you go. It looked quite cool in the mag... theres some pix and I think they promised a "readers specials" feature on it.

For my money the Moriwaki and Freddie Spencer replicas were far cooler.....
