I just saw an add for one of these, $9995 for a new motard sounds not too bad. Anyone had a ride on one of these?

Why has the rider got his leg out? I don't see any highway pegs on the thing <_<

I'm told they're a great commuter bike.

Road a new one which Suzuki NZ had put together for Hawera M/C Carbon this & that Full Yoshy Pipe , looked the Shit till I road it very disappointed would be an under statement , From owning sinlges most of my life this 400cc motor felt strangled wouldn't even lift the front in first ?? . The ride it self was good as were the brakes & turning into corners . The suppension would need to be hardend up alot to get the best out of it on the road & gearing was ait off but these can be changed with out to much drama . Told Robert Taylor it would have to be rejetted to sort out the Flat power that the new pipe had done to it , to which he was going to do . Try one tho it may be a great round town bike or back road gravel toy depends what you are after .

S'funny, I rode a stocker that'll quite happily hoist the front in 1st or 2nd, but yea. Sensei's right, they feel a bit strangled. Nothing a pipe and jetting wouldn't fix.

They stop on a dime and are a shitload of fun, but Spud, you'll lose your licence in five minutes mate. Not a good bike for cops to ride.

We've got a demo at work (WMCC), and like Wt says, wheelies are no real problem!
They have a couple of restrictors that are pretty easy to remove, and the jetting is pretty lean stock.
Come and see for yourself.

I've got the DR-Z400E ands simply the best trail bike that I have ever owned (yes had quite a few). Is alot quicker than a XR500R and much more fun to ride. I brought the tail section and the indercators off a chap wi the SM and had a good yack. Have not actually had a ride on one myself, but they have to be awesome. Well worth the cash IMO.:ride:

I have a couple of weeks leave coming up soon so I might just do that. I like the concept of the motards but I'm a little concerned that a 400 would be a bit underpowered for me as I'm around 6'1" and 98kg. I'd really prefer a 600 but I couldn't be bothered stuffing around converting an XR or similar, I like the convenience of an off the shelf model.

I'll send you a PM if I end up heading down to Wgtn for a demo.

It couldn't be any more risky for the licence than my last two bikes were, (TLS & VTR), never had any problems with either of those bikes!

hey Spud.
i'm a similar size - 6'2 and 102 kilos
i've owned a cagiva raptor and KTM 640 supermoto and rode a DRZ supermoto a few months back. i very nearly bought one - but built my project instead in the end.
they are a little restricted, but a pipe and the FCR flatslide carb from the dirt only DRZ (which is about $600 from suzuki NZ) take care of that.
go ride the DRZSM to see what it handles like and see if you can get a ride on the dirt-only DRZ for performance.
they are fast when sorted - even for the "fuller fugured".
PM me if you have any questions

Great bike for me. Give it a go, you might be surprised. Although they tell me the SM is a tad restricted, thought of trying the E model? Its great, for a suzuki.<_<

The aprillia v-twins should be here soon. 550cc sounds like the go but only has a 7 litre fuel tank (what were they thinking) Rumoured to be 15-16K though.

think you may find that carb is on the rmz's....not drz's

The 4.5 Supermotard is 13,990AUD and the 5.5 Supermotard is 14,490AUD according to Australasian Dirt Bike

nope - it's standard on the dirt only DRZ400 (the non-electric start model)
the bike is not road registerable in shipped form - so no pollution issues with the carb.
did all the research - it's a 39mm FCR with TPS.
it's also the best price for a pre-jetted FCR that i could find.

if you do get down here, I own a full spec off road version you're welcome to ride as a comparison after the SM.

Sadly they will be a tad out of my price range. If I win lotto any time soon I'll be signing up for one of those Ducati mega-motards or whatever the hell they call them.

Spud, add the Yamaha XT660X to your list. The 'tard version of the latest XT660, which is injected.
Rode the trail version (XT660) round the block the other day, definately a nice amount of poke on the road!

If you want a bit more go there's a tidy looking silver 03 KTM 640 SM in bike mart for 8-something (the ad says 610 but there is no such thing) It'll wheelie off the throttle in 1st, add a better pipe & a rejet for 2nd gear power wheelies. Slightly heavier than the DRZ but better suspension & much more comfortable.

Motards are big fun.

Cheers

hey clint - i owned a 2002 supermoto KTM and the DRZ has easily as good suspension. the front is from the RMZ and the rear is fully ajustable.
i know the KTM is WP, but don't dismiss the shocks on the DRZSM.
