As you may have read in another post F&D are hosting another Elephant run to Taupo this year. Ride involves a run up to Taupo, a go on the track, prizes and a few celebs such a Craig Sherriffs in attendance to answer all your suspension woes (eh Velox) and a ride home. It's a biggie but well worth it. Wellington dudes plan to depart 0730 at Pauatahanui for Taupo. So don't be soft and come along. Rumour has it some scared sheep Sqn members might be there too.

It's on Sun 30th April

Hmmmm I dunno. Heading up there 3 weeks later for the trackday already and it's a lot of pretty sterile roads for one day's riding. It's more ks than going to Auck and I was so stuffed doing that. The Jade was a bit more of a long distance machine.;) 'Is' I mean - it's not dead yet. What's the deal with Craig though? Is he doing a bit of a Q&A time or something?

V - 380km one way to Taupo. Our first and second days on that Auck trip must have been close to this round trip distance. Besides, SH1 would give higher average speeds thus less stress on the wrists.

Wonder how much to get onto the track. Wouldnt mind a lap or two before the Taupo trackday.

Paper towel calculation reveals a higher avg speed than I can do sanely.

I'm gonna leave the same place at 0700 instead.

Since my fuel tank is the size of a thimble I need to fill up every 20 minutes anyway.

Other nanas (Or Honda Firestorm owners) welcome to join me, see you 0650 at the Challenge station in Pauatahanui.

If you stick behind me, you won't actually be doing 100km/h, your licence will still be at risk ;) (Well, demerits/fines anyway) , just less so.

Update. Seems we'll have to start at 0700 in order to get there early enough. The track sessions are around lunchtime and we don't want to miss out. There are other rides planned from Hawkes Bay and Auckland. So who's keen? Don't let the fuel prices put you off.

I just heard today...that there is gunna be a small fee for track riding....and its 90% likely to be on the old circut....not sure if that chages anyones opinions on the day....but I heard last years elephant run was a awesome social event...and a hell of a larf... so I kind wish I could go....hmm....anyone but mikey feel like milking my moo's?

Hi All - have just spoken to Auck M/C club who are organising the track sessions, and they are planning on two 15 min sessions, costing $20.00 ( for both, not each) Times will be approx 11.00 am and 2.00 pm depending on how their race schedule progresses.

Righto. Only showers forecast for Sunday now. So far there's me Deano, Tazman, and Flame going. That's not many considering how many of us ride around here. Going to be a good day don't miss out.

Right for those who are going (prob me and Deano) its now 0730 meet at Pauatahanui inlet. Forecast is showers clearing so it wont be too bad. Folks are going from AK, Hawkes Bay, and Hamilton so lets not make Welly look like a bunch of pussies and get some numbers up there.

See you all there

Meaning there was nothing holding you back? :blip:On SH1, I have a constant fear of HP. And I think I am right too. Desert Road I saw two HP on the way up, on the way down I saw two HP on the side of the road having pulled cages over. Between Hunterville and Mangaweka I saw 2 HP.

One was a bit daft, he was on the other side of the road, radar on, probably pointing backwards. I was following a car with a crappy trailer doing 110. I go past the HP guy, he's not looking up. Now if there is a candidate for a ticket, it's car with the crappy trailer doing 110, as it should be doing 80. But because he wasn't looking up, he missed out on the ticket. Or at least remiding the driver in a friendly way that they should be doing 80, especially with a trailer as crap as that. By not looking up, that guy wasn't making the fullest contribution to road safety he could.

Actually, I made better time on the way back. I got the the supermarket around the corner from my house at 8pm and left Taupo at 4pm.

Took me 4.5 hours exactly from Pauatahanui to the track on the way up. Including 15 minutes of thumb twiddling in Foxton while I let some chain lube set.

Speed limits 90 now for a trailer dude. Sorry, just knit picking. How does the new track stack up by the way?

Apparently, it was the 'OLD' track. Buggered if I know. The surface is awesome. SOOO short a track. It was like racing around a big carpark. Wonderful, almost dinky little thing.

I was just getting up to speed too, but alas, only one go. I really really want another go at that track.

I would but we're shorthanded, I don't have any sick leave and I can't find a doctor that will sign something saying I'm too sick to work but still able to charge around a race track.
