Saturday, a fantastic afternoon fer a ride and I'm on my V-Strom heading to Taupo. I'd headed out from home, through Te Pahu, Pirongia, Te Awamutu and Kihikihi and down the Western Bypass. I peeled off just past Mangikino and THAT'S where I should have checked me gas.

But I didnae, as the road was empty and there were some great sounds on the MP3 player and I was making great time - besides, that last bar on the gas gauge has to disappear, don't it? Anyway I was only 50km from Taupo.

After a while the little bar thing was joined by a petrol bowser thingo and they both started flashing..shit, I'm only 40km out - I should make it...

And I nearly did - I ran out about 12km short. Phucke.:slap:

So here I am tipping the thing over, hoping that there's a half a litre in the other side of the tank (there wasn't), when Roger turned up.

Roger was caning the snot out of a yellow Triumph when he saw me, stopped and offered to help. I said it'd be OK, I was gonna rung up HerIndoors and get her to sort summat out. But Roger insisted - he rode home to Taupo, grabbed a tin and drove back in his car.

When he came back, we stood on the side of the road and yarned about bikes for awhile, he'd just sold his Husaburg, and was not happy that he was gonna miss desert storm.

He refused any money for the gas and off he went...

What a guy.
This is one of thing's I love about motorcycles.

Motorcycle Karma - if you stop and help, you will be helped when you need it.

You are one lucky bunny. When mine ran out of gas- on yellow lines of course, so I had to push the bloody thing about 200 metres, NOBODY stopped, not even the four motorcyclists... oh well

Bloody top notch!

Great to hear that there are still people out there that want to help others.

Yep, that's me....thanks for the rep but you're welcome. I am sure there will come a time when I'll need help and another KB biker will be there for me. Its part of what creates a community of riders rather than just a disparate bunch of individuals on bikes.

Gotta get me eyes checked! Thought yer wrote "desperate" for a minute! Well done, anyways! Lived in Taupo for ten years, 1980-90, still got friends there. Hope to get down on my bike sometime. If'n I run outta gas, can I call you? :ride:

If you come down give me a call, there's a few down here keen for a ride and we will supervise your filling up at the gas station to be sure you make it back!

Seriously tho' some great rides down here and I'm usually keen unless it's "persisting" down...I'm a Nana when it comes to getting wet...

I was returning from a job in Taupo some time ago.Instead of turning off to go through Mokau,I carried on up highway one to get some honey from the honey farm and then turned west just before atiamuri. But I made a wrong turn and missed the road to get back to SH 30 and ran out of gas somewhere back near Mokau.I went up a farmers drive and he sold me some gas.He thought I would be pushing it to get to Mangakino before the gas station closed, but I made it with a few minutes to spare.
I've run out in the king country so many times.
I'll never learn.

Hahaha - that area is my main stamping ground for misbehaving Paul. I'll lay out some string so that you guys from north of the Bombays can find your way around:nya: (Only joking, hehe)

Cool, I have new bars.....not quite the same as a new bike but hey, I take what I can when the purse is open! Sounds like a good idea Tony.
