And now, the end is here
And so I face the final curtain
Its time the faithful Hyobag went. A loyal friend that got me around South Island chasing litre bikes, the mighty Wairarapa, and on the formidably short Taupo Track Day.
Its a bloody easy bike to ride. I lived on a steep driveway and had no problems navigating it. No need to rev the shite out of the bike or anything!
Ill be completely honest about the condition of the bike. Much of my riding is documented on this site anyway.
 Purchased new in July '05.
 The paintwork is in bloody good condition. Fine scratches on paint only. Tank-pad from day one. Muffler has scratches.
 Dropped in the driveway, and in a ramp in Greymouth. Both 0km/h incidents. Brake lever slightly bent as a result.
 Dropped in the gravel in the Rimutakas. By the time I had run off the road and had dropped the bike, I was going quite slow. This is the cause of the scratches on the muffler.
 Serviced regularly by TSS in Lower Hutt, including having the CDI unit replaced due to a bad batch.
 New rear tyre in the last 300km. Pads replaced in last 1000km (I think). Chain replaced in the last 5000kms. The bike also has heated-grips and the rear fender/spade has been cut off.
 Rego'd and warranted until July '06.
 Garaged every night, and under cover at work each day.
 Gave poos the learn (I can't back that up).
Can't think of anything else. Questions?
I only have web access at work so please forgive the time delays if you PM me. Ill post a pic tomorrow (Thursday).
Cheers. skelstar.:niceone:
[edit] - photos added. Pack rack not included. I have sold this already. Thanks!

Yep, shes all there at the top of the page mate. Shes a great wee bike. Real-world sized too. Keen?
Just interested, (not buying... just a tyre kicker) what kind of gas mileage (km/litre or litre/km) did you get out of it?
SwanTiger
18th May 2006, 23:19
Oh I can give you an answer to that.
I get around 380km of hard'ish riding and around 450km 'ish from cruising from a 17 ltr tank.
Spastically cheap bikes to run, better than a GN I reckon when you factor in the style and power delivery low down. Once you hit 4th gear its all over but for those brief few moments you feel like you're on a sportsbike.
EDIT: There is some emission control blah blah thing by default which creates the flatspot (apparently) and cutting a wire in the CDI or running from the CDI resolves this problem. However this emission thing plays a big part in fuel economy.

Sorry I obviously couldn't see the wood for the trees!! What with all the info on the top of the page. Far too obvious for me. Looks kinda good but might be a bit new and therefore expensive for my financialy limited girlfreind. I think she's hoping for something under $2k. Though that seems to easier said than done in the 250 market! Thanks anyway.

UNDER $2,000? You had better be looking at a fairly old 250 - like 3+ years old!
250s are a top-dollar bike matey-flip, find ANY one that is late model good condition one with low miles on it and under $2,000 and you have scored a miracle!

lool!! skelstar sounds like a good guy i would be happy to take the bike off him and i thought of going by plane and ride it back but i never tried riding a long distance like that on a bike that i just bought

How long have you been riding? If you've ridden for awhile you can just take it easy and use the skills you've already learned.
SwanTiger
18th June 2006, 20:18
That'd be the upside to someone pillioning you down, you'll be riding with someone else so if you strike trouble there is immediate assistance.
EDIT: How fat are you?

It's do-able. I bought my bike in Wanganui, pillioned down and rode it back. I'd had my learners license 2 weeks. Good way to get to know your bike. The snow on the desert road was interesting too.

Pretty good bikes all round really.
Cheap to service if you do it yourself (4,000km intervals, $150'ish from a Dealer, $30 - $40 if you do it yourself).
Standard Tyres aren't great in the wet but ridden with some maturity they are fine. Good mileage, I got 12,000km out of my rear and have heard of other people getting 20,000km +.
There is a very noticable flat spot between 6,000rpm and 7,000rpm roughly, which is most often found in 3rd gear.
400km Fuel Mileage if you cruise (keep under or around 7,500rpm) and cost a few dollars under $25 to fill the tank.
350km 'ish if you go for it...
Suspension isn't the greatest but kept within its limits works fine.
The only real negative point is its lack of top end speed, to do 100kmp/h you'll be sitting around 7,000 rpm and to do 120kmp/h you'll be sitting around 8,000 rpm and the red line is 10,500 rpm.
The solution, I've been told, is to take three teeth off the rear sprocket. The guy who told me this said its because the engines over-rev. He is a member of this site so maybe he'll see this thread and give more insight.
I'd tend to agree with him so have it done.
Will give you 500rpm or so and no real noticable difference in acceleration.
Get a screen too... $120 'ish
Muffler sounds good debaffled too, but I'd recommend spending $500 - $700 and getting a proper sports exhuast for it. You'll gain 5 - 10 kmp/h top end if not more. There are lots of mod's available too. Jetting, opening up the air box, etc. Check out http://www.korider.com/ for more info.
Definitely buy it dude.

thanx mate i appreciate your help its sound like a great bike looks cool too not too much power for me not to handle im really keen on buying it, its just my friend is telling me to buy a xr250 because he likes dirtbiking (his username is carver if you know him) but i want to try sport tourer bikes because i really like them
thanks again for the info

No point in getting a trail bike unless you're going to be riding off road a lot.
But a Honda XR250 would be a nice bike as well. I use to have a XR80 when I was younger and loved it. Very reliable.
Buy the Hyosung, you won't regret it. They're good on gravel roads too :D

Hey mate, was going to email/PM you but thought I might as well do it here.
To be honest I dont know how much it would cost exactly to transport, but do know its fairly expensive (ie at least $100++). It wouldnt be a huge issue to ride it to Hamilton. All ya do is leave ealry and take 12 hours to get there if you have to. The bike has heated grips (very nice) so getting cold is less of an issue. Ive been tempted to change the grips over to my current bike, but have resisted...which could be good news for you ;).
Let me know what you want to do.:niceone:
