View Full Version : Things happen, huh!!
Jackrat
2nd May 2004, 19:53
It's in The nature of what we do that things happen.
If it happens to you and you need a hand getting your bike home give me a call, 09 2350403,,,if your within two hours of South AK i will be more than happy to lend a hand.I'm at home most of the time, ether chasing cows around the place or something similar so I'm easy to find.Time of day or night makes no difference to me.I have a Nissan Patrol and a trailer,Might ask $10 for fuel but that's it.This is for break downs or poor parking skills,If your not in good shape I will deliver your bike to where ever you like within a couple of hours of AK, or if you don't mind paying for the gas anywhere in the north island.
Cheers.

Hey There Jack, Racey and Wkid
That is a very generous and genuine offer you have made. It is guys like you that make me proud to be a member of the biking fraternity.I have always considered that most bike riders are caring people and do look out for each other when out on the road, even if it's only a wave of acknowledgement. I guess this come down to our love of "two wheels" regardless of what we ride. I hope I never need to use your services but it is great to know that you are out there and available if I ever do.
Keep up the great work and ride safe.
Cheers

This is great we can have a whole "incident" support system in place that would save heaps if you don't need a towing company. Have no car trailer or space but will help out where possible.

Have ute and full workshop and will travel...soon we could have the whole roading network covered.
Perhaps we should have a register of people who can help in the event of an off or breakdown. :yeah:
Posh Tourer :P
3rd May 2004, 19:27
Yeah that concept of a register happened in the BMWOR, perhaps a dedicated page people could print out etc.?
Edit: BMWOR had a booklet, with name, number, area, and categories such as workshop, trailer/transport, accomodation, coffee/chat anytime, and a few others I cant recall. The family left the BMWOR recently as it became too many pretty boys on weekend toys (that and father got bored of riding - too much been there done that)
Add me to the list, too, for Tauranga / Kaimai / East Waikato area. I have a bike trailer and a reasonable bunch of tools.

You guys are making me feel all unfriendly - ok,I have a trailer and van set up to haul bikes,I work too much, but am certainly prepard to help anyone in need...I have a full workshop and some small knowledge of how a bike works - a tyre machine with motorcycle adapters,so we can repair a flat tyre no trouble, beer and motorcycle magazines to help idle moments.Browze the workshop, count the bikes.

4th May 2004, 07:37
Sounds like we are onto somthing here, given the geographical diversity of our domicles, we could have some form of registar of memebers who are prepared to assit,Depending on how many we got perhaps a laminated A5 sheet with contact details would be handy to carry with us. I have access to one of those laminating thingys should we need.
I have been happy to help out in the past, and like others have a bike trailer, tie downs etc, plus a few contacts for after hours assistance from a bike dealer. :2thumbsup
Also due to Mrs FF deciding we need to live in a palatial mansion we will, in a couple of weeks have a house with a large lock up garage suitable to store bikes.
So I guess its up to some IT type (notice I didn't say computer geeks) to get this thing up and running.
Good one you Jack for sharing the idea.

Have a ute with a loading ramp & tie-downs.
There is a full farmer's workshop at home. Have most things needed to do repairs on bikes, but I'm no bike mechanic.
Plenty of beds here (2 Houses) and my parents (and myself) always welcome visiters (so there is a bed here for you, even if you are just passing through).
I'm also a Registered Nurse and can assess you need for treatment (but if in doubt always ring the ambulance), but don't carry a first aid kit with me (fu*k must get one!).
Will cover from South of Kerikeri/Kaikohe to North of the Brynderwyns. I may go as far north as Kaitaia and as far as South as Wellsford at a push.

Till our house sells, any riders pasing through that need a bed for night are welcome to ring.
Wife came across a biker in Bulls just recently that had dropped his bike and snapped the foot off his gearlever.... she rang me and I went over with drill and tools and a bolt to 'repair' teh pedal to get him rolling again. he wasnt a member here or of Ulysses so I encouraged him to sign up.
wouldnt it be good to have a KB freephone number that members can ring when in trouble and the 'calltaker' has the list of the local contacts that can respond...... now theres a KB site idea worth tossing round and members wouldnt have to carry a contact list with them when they travel just have the emergency assist number programmed in their phone

I have been developing a new non-commercial site with this concept as the core service. I believe there is a real need for some kind of database of biker-friendly folk who will assist a downed or broken-down biker in trouble.
The site - www.bikermates.co.nz (http://www.bikermates.co.nz) - will be live in late July and include up to date weather, traffic and local information specifically aimed at bikers.
If anyone would like a quick message when the site is live please PM me.
Cheers,
Brusier

just discovered this thread. If anyone is stuck in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, then gizus a call. No trailer or tie downs, but I can hire you one, and come get ya if you're in the crap. Can surf you on my couch until we get you on your way. Coffee pot is always hot. Plenty of broadband. Eat what we're eating - there's always a bit left over - fish and chip shop around the corner. Grab a vegemite sandwich outa the cupboard. Loads and loads of tools to fix almost anything. Can store a bike here, or in my mates shed.
If you're in gisborne, or anywhere really, and need to get west, I can come get ya - you pays diesel, RUC, trailer, etc - a six-hour drive.
Mostly there is someone at home, and usually I can get away, unless I have a job I can't put down.
