MotoGP 2004 - Round 2- Jerez
250 Race

Anthony West had struggled in the dry on Friday but went much better in Saturday's wet session and with rain falling at Jerez on race day West was confident of a good result.
Reigning World Champion Manuel Poggiali was the first one to bite the dust while West did not get the start he had hoped for and finished the first lap in 14th position.

By lap ten Anthony West had worked his way up to fifth place. Then with 15 laps to run West had managed to slip up to third place.

Rolfo was the leader though with a healthy 10 second lead over De Puniet, who in turn had 25 seconds on West. Nieto got under West for third with seven laps to run and it looked as though this pair would battle to the line for that final podium position. West got third back with five laps to run but they continued to tussle at nearly every turn.

On the last lap West was holding down third but Nieto was right on his tail and looking for a way past and Nieto did exactly that to secure the final podium position on his factory backed machine from West on his privateer bike.

Rolfo took a great win from Randy De Puniet.
