Newbie First Post - Basic Handling Skills

G'day

Joined this site back in Oct 04, and completed my BHS today, didn't want to rush in to fast - if you know what I mean.

The course here in Petone today was very good and a big thank you to AT, well conducted and professional.

Why did I take so long, well being an Aussie [all flack well received in the best of taste] I never rode a bike in my life and at 53yrs now you could understand why I took my time - had to come across the ditch for starters for some excellent bike riding country.

My longterm goal is to have completely toured the South Island by the time I am 60yrs old, see I keep my head up and look way ahead. Seriously will start out on a GN250 and probably remain in the Valley here for quite a few months before venturing further a field.

Big thanks to SteveDee for his encouragement it will certainly be quite a while before I even get on a Z750.

Welcome to the madhouse. I can tell you are a cautious person, but I can't believe that you will confine yourself to 'the valley' for long. You will benefit most from rides out of town. Get yourself 'in' with the easy Welly riders - they will see you right.

Welcome to the madness, enjoy the GN they have always been great bikes although I understand the recent chinese models have dropped the quality somewhat.
Do all the riding you can and enjoy it, remember....

Welcome to KB, biking general and to your pending tour of the South Island.
My advise is practice all you can up North first because there's some fantastic riding to do up there!
Without leaving home. (As they say)
Keep focused on that target because time slips by even faster every year, you will be 60 before you know it!
May even see you when you get down here!
We got caught in the snow on the Lindis Pass yesterday but luckily we have a lot of options available to us when the going gets tough.
We just turned around and spent a lovely evening by the fire at my brother in laws house at Wanaka.(Perfect solution)
There are plenty of us KBr's down here to help you if you get into trouble away from home. Cheers John.

Welcome to KB. You should check the TCWNR ride in the meetings thread. Its a nice cruisy pace with a good number of L platers (like me) on a Wednesday night meeting at the Avalon park duck pond. Its good for your confidence and your skill level.

If ya do come say hi! Just look for the VTZ of doom!
