Brake Discs (METALGEAR)

Having recently got my ZXR back on the road & going through the ritual processes of wof & rego etc. during the wof my discs were mentioned to me, i knew they're getting to the end of their lives & had planned on replacing them anyhow, they passed the wof but are at the limits.
Upon speaking with my local bike shop i discussed what options were available

OEM: yeah right!
EBC: over a grand for a full set allround
FBG: apparently the bloke is pretty crook at present & not working

the shop mentioned METALGEAR discs : www.metalgear.com.au

I hadn't heard of these guys before & on having done a quick search here can't see them mentioned in any of the brake threads here.

Well today the rear disc arrived and the front ones are coming, and all i can say is that I'm impressed :yes: the rear has cost me $185 & the front are $265 a piece. even though the rear is only a solid disc the finish quality is bloody good, the test will be the braking effectiveness :yes: but the rear is just a stablizer anyhow

Has anyone heard of these before ? and for anyone contemplating discs for their bikes heres another option.

I've had a quick nosey at their website & it looks as if they aren't just confined to brake discs either.

Well at least i can say it will have set more of a standard on disc pricing, i think here on in we will see some quality european discs drop in price.

In my haste before to post this I forgot to mention that they come with a set of brake pads as well :yes: . I didn't take the set that came with the disc as i've just fitted new pads anyhow. just slipped a bit of credit on my account at the shop instead :blip:

yeah yeah european discs :angry: not all of us have deep pockets allowing for such luxuries

Yeah the site is still under construction or something, but theres enough there to get the idea.
I was a bit annoyed when we opened the packet at the shop & saw the pads, it was only 3wks ago that i put the new ones in :angry:

Well after a drawn out friggin shit sling with Telescrotum & Xtra was finally able to get the pxt of the new disc, some friggin server problem of telecom's, bunch of money hungry pricks.

But here tis anyhow the Metalgear disc, fitted & the old one ( lols bloody thing went like a dish soon as i took it off, no shit its pulled up like a saucer now).
though its done well i wouldn't mind $1 for everytime it's gone round in 83500km.

On the ZXR yeah they are (twin 310mm semi floating discs) or are you meaning the replacement ones? they'll be the same as their built to OEM specs. the rear is solid mount 230mm.
The front discs are in transit at present, there weren't any in stock in NZ at the time so there coming from the manufacturer and the distributor was only able to supply the rear right away (2 days wait).

The thing I love about dealing with overseas companies and even individuals, is that they can transport something half way round the world quicker than a NZ company can get something from Auckland CBD to Motomail, or CHCH to Hamilton etc

Well, sweet as then~ I've seen some dodgy cheapos replacement discs over here, in the fandangle 'wavy' style but non-floating. At a guess, I'd say they'd be better off sticking with the OEM stuff.

Jump on Ebay and do a search under "Galfer".

They've got primo wave brake discs there, OEM isn't exciting. Lot's of race teams run Galfer.

Doe's anybody know whether the K5 600 anniversary discs would fit on a K6 1000? I imagine they should be the same fit, but not sure.
