I've floated this idea Before but now Im getting serious.
Im proposing a new race series run by the three active bike clubs in the noth island.
My proposal is to run a tri club series.
it will consist of 6 rounds 2 at pukie/hampton downs. 2 at taupo and 2 at manfield.
Class wise im thinking It will be basicly national classes
F3,
600 sports production.
production superbikes
125gp
post classic senior/junior
with the inclusion of the street stock150 stroker/250'4 strokes class.
Minimum entry would be 10 for a class to procede
the proddy superbike class Im thinking could be F2 which would allow modified 600's and 250 stroker race bikes.
Each club would run their own two meetings and procedes would go back to the club.
Prize wise we would be racing for cups not money.
prize giving would be held at Taupo -central location.

Race guys --feedback please

What time of year would you envision this occurring Frosty?
I'm thinking an extra 6 weekends of racing could be a financial strain for many
Do you think there is any merit in the clubs running this championship in their current individual series, as in they nominate two rounds of their existing series to be the Nth Island champs?
I like the idea, I'd like to see post classic in there as well. Can't think why though :wait:

YES -sugilite--Ill edit -I was tired so yep posties of course.
And funny you shoud mention the part of existing series thing--That was EXACTLY what I had in mind But I want to see If I can get race comittee reps from all 3 clubs together all in one place at one time.

Would be keen, but we've had the North Island cup before. Are you volunteering to coordinate things? If so we could easily put the points from some of the existing vicclub rounds towards it.

Getting an additional 6 rounds a year, might be difficult, the tracks are pretty heavily booked at the weekends.

Thanks for clearing that up frosty.
The more I think about the concept, the more I like it! :first:

Yeah the North Island cup thing sounds good. I agree it would be better to incorporate existing rounds from the local club champs instead of a totally seperate series. This way there would be a minimal increase in workload for the respective clubs and they could benefit from the extra publicity. Maybe even some MNZ kickbacks in it.

This would help bridge the gap between club level and Nationals level racing giving club racers exposure to racing against top racers who are more likely to front up for Nth Isl cup rounds.

If possible maybe scheduling it sometime shortly before the nationals but after the new models for the year arrive to allow Nationals racers to use these rounds to prepare.

yep Phil -that is EXACTLY what im saying. -I want to give back to my sport and I thought this is the perfect way.
Although Im a AMCC club member and have spoken to some of the comittee members Im not biased towards any club.
for this idea to work it will take the FULL cooperation of all clubs involved.
for exaple we will have to runn the exact same race rules for all three clubs and elligibility for particular bikes will need to be sorted out.
This I why im hoping to organise a meeting in taupo of all interested parties --so we can nut it all out --cos i think it could be a go for the 07/08 season --too late for the 06/07 series

Good basic idea Frosty. Like a lot of things though good ideas need a person with committment, resources, organisational skills, time etc to actually make it happen...
Can we have more racing in January/February/March please ie during the good weather.
Now it is getting into May/June I seem to have a race meeting every weekend but in Jan/Feb/March I was kind of thinking - wish I was racing somewhere right now!!

well there is track time and there is track time... in the dry (ie late afternoon in the dry last weekend at Taupo) or in the wet (ie morning at Taupo last weekend!!!)
Are you in Taupo this weekend Frosty? Didn't see you there last weekend.

Like the Nationals???

Good idea Frosty, but like others say, not extra rounds, just a partnership between all three clubs...

ts --The idea is that the clubs can run say 3 grass roots level meetings per year --the kind where a road rider can go on the track for some laps--real low key stuff to encourage new racers to give it a go.
The idea of the tri club series is that its the next step up .More pressure ,more professional aproach by the clubs. Its to be a bridge between say a PMCC club meeting and a full national meeting

The idea is good Frosty. Particularly from an Auckland view. I presume the VMCC guys get a lot of "part time" racers to their meets. whereas the AMCC seem to cater for Post Classic bikes. Their (AMCC) Clubmans class does not seem to attract enough riders to go on to other classes. Therefore you are going to have to encourage the occasional "trackday" riders to support the grass roots events.
Like Cleve I would like to see more events during the early part of year. It is frustrating not knowing what the weather will do and you don't have spare stuff to cope with it, like all newbs.

So your saying adding in 6 more races to the all ready 19 races being held??? Or three extra races???

neither chris--Im saying that 6 meetings--2 from each club be designated Ni champ meetings and the points count to the champoinship points.
Logicly you will get more riders from out of town coming to compete at a higher level meeting

Ah i see, that is what i first thought... But then some of the other posts made it look like there would be extra rounds... Im all for it, even though it will cost extra :niceone:
