Any reason that you want to change from a R to an RR?

If you ride them both you'll know. The R is a gutless armchair, the RR is quite fun.

That's odd, they both have the same engine and box

But, the RR has more stickers!

They're vastly different in the engine... I'm guessing valve sizes, port sizes, carb sizes, cam profile. The redline is 19k on the RR, and 17 on the R iirc. Not only that, sit on the R... feels horrible.. like a seat from primary school. It's a totally different riding position to the RR. R has 16" front wheel (18" rear??), much better handling from the 17/17 combo on the RR.

R is a great learners bike, but gets old real quick. The RR is the sort of toy that you'd consider hanging onto after you're on your full.

No no no, engines are exactly from MC19 to MC22. Tacho shows different redline but rev limiter still kicks in at same place. Only differences (apart from asthetics) are "banana" swingarm and double front discs (as opposed to a single front on the MC19.

Obviously the MC22 looks way way better and doesn't look too out of place with the modern bikes. I've never ridden a MC19 but owned a MC22 for a year or so and they are fucking cool bikes.

I'm pretty sure that the engines are different... they certaintly feel different. iirc, the carbs are definitely different, and so are the cam profiles. Please don't ride the mc19 K14, you'll destroy your cbr250 memories.

(damn thats a sexy CBR in the picture  )

1989 CBR250R(K) (MC19). Essentially identical to the R(J), except now had a speed limiter which was set at 185 km/h.

1990-1991 CBR250RR(L) (MC22). A completely new redesigned bike that features a new cast/pressed aluminium frame that gives a more aggressive riding position, gull shaped swing arm that was adopted from the NSR250, higher rising tail, six spoke cast aluminium wheels and dual front φ276 mm floating disk brakes.

The only feature that was adopted from the previous model CBR250s was the original MC14E engine. This too was slightly modified with a crankshaft that featured φ27.5 mm small-end journals, up φ0.5 mm from the previous φ27 mm journals. The engine also uses a completely new set of VP carburettors that feature smaller throats reduced from φ32 mm to φ30.5 mm. These carburettors are now feed by a vacuum operated pump for fuel delivery.

Yeah, saw some other pages like that after a nose around.

Looks like cam profiles, carbs, journal sizes, valves sizes etc changes, but the block essentially remained the same. Interesting to note the shape of the power curves... looks like the later ones were pretty restricted. Wonder if anyone does an unrestricted cdi for them?

The later ones got smaller carbs

Yep, different 'type' too. No idea why that was... improve gas flow at low engines speeds to increase mid range since the top end is restricted anyway? Just a better type of carb, and thus doesn't need to be as big? To restrict the top end?
