Hi

Finally got my bike from Customs today, it has been here for 3 weeks and I ge the call yesterday to go get it, well that is not bad 15weeks from the moon, oops spelling error Scotland.

I have booked it in for its complience cert on Tuesday, I am having a problem getting my full beam light to work the main beam works and the dipped, will this be a problem? Everything else is ok. I have booked it into VTNZ at Manakua City.

Any comments on this would be appreciated.

Cheers
Andy

Should it not only have Dipped and 'high beam'

I never knew a bike to have three different settings

sennandy

Most bikes do have 3 beams low, mid and high, well I am sure someone will prove me wrong on an indian manufactured bike made in 1999 by kenwood only had 2beams or the likes, but i have had kwakas yams triumph and ducs and the all have 3

Just checked mine, yep 3, push on then mid then another button for high

you dont mean , park, dipped then high beam do you?

if so then most bikes do have three setting for their lights, sure your gixxer would to OAB!

Hondas have a three postition slide swtich for "OFF' "PARK" and "LOW" beams and then a seperate puch button to switch to "HIGH" and aslo a spring loaded switch in order to temporairaly flash HIGH

Kawasaki ZXR400

Lights hardwired on, then a switch to put them on high... that's it.

shouldn't be a problem, I was in Manukau as well and it took him a week to have my monster sorted:yes: "they" don't get many ducatis and I simply translated the german papers, gave him the min. break disc figures and that's it. Duc's come with so many different specs, it is impossible for him to trace every single mod down:nya:

have fun

Never seen 3 stage switch. The FXR150 lights are on permanently and have a switch for selecting between low or high beam plus a high beam flasher switch.

Nah, just checked my bike. No headlight 'on-off' switch or 'park' light option, just a switch on the left clipon for high or low beam. Two way switch then.

Three stage is not uncommon - Off-Park (which may be a dimmed low beam)-Full. With a secondary switch for dip and main beam.

Typically found on bikes built for the UK market, which used to enforce parking light requirements. Two of my four have park lights, one doesn't , one has the switch position but it does nothing (never did)

sAsLEX
30th April 2006, 11:41
Well must just be Hondas that have the options

Ixion

BMW has them, one Suzuki does, one doesn't, Yamaha has the switch position but it has never been wired up (and an empty hole in the headlamp reflector for a bulb holder).

It will be a matter of intended market and age, not make. We are too small to justify our own market specification. We get bikes intended, and spec'd, for various markets . Some have or had park light requirements, some do/did not.

My Sporty has them too, - but only has hard-wired dip and full when engine running, has 'park' lights when ign switch is in middle non-running postion (where, if needed you can remove the keys.?).

12 weeks?!
did they get lost?!
ours got here in about 6 - even before our boxes did!

almost failed a WOF last week 'cos the high beam 'warning' bulb was blown.
(replaced it with the neutral one to get the WOF)
(it's ok tho', found a spare bulb at home, so it's all 'legal')

so yeh, it'd pay to have it sorted..
(it's gone in today tho', hasn't it?)

oh well... hope it went well!

My old CBR250 used to have the park, low and high options but my VTR only has high and low, I don't know whats involved in a compliance check but if it's the same as a warrent then they should check for both high and low beam

My ancient moto guzzi has;

Hazard lights (waste of time - the whole bike is a hazard),
Park (horrid little lamp that always falls out of the lamp unit),
Low beam (quite useful for alerting motorists) and
High beam which is really quite good and annoying people and flattening the battery.

My Triumph has ;
Low beam so dim that it can only be seen on moonless nights
High beam that dribbles off the lens, onto the front wheel and dies gasping 3 feet in front of the bike.

I plan to do something about the Triumph.

Thanks

It failed on the high beam not working, to go for a retest, asked what was involved in a retest and was told just bring it in anytime and show us the light is working.

Does anyone know of any guys who are good with bike(ducati) electrics, as I have changed the bulb checked the wires and still no joy!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, forgot how good it was to be out taking it to the testing station today.

Thanks
Andy

That sucks...
Have you tried pulling the switch componentry apart and giving it a clean/spray?
If it works on the other two settings, it could just be a 'dirty' connection on the high beam setting....?

Check your ignition switch, you can turn it anti-clockwise past 'lock' to switch the park lights on.

My GSX-R has hazard lights...... must be cause I'm 'flash'....

Nah, just checked mine today and no park light option and I looked everywhere! Is your gixxer American (or other market) new as it would seem the hazard light option is from another country. As far as I know NZ new gixxers don't come with them. Perhaps that explains why you've got a park light option.

NZ new as far as I know, WT might be able to shed some more light on that.

I'm curious now and gonna be checking out every Gixxer I see!

Ah, Lucas electrics! You can't beat 'em. Well, you can but it still won't make the bastards do anything.

Wow this is a great thread, mine has got 3 stages of on low, mid and then you press another button(looks like ejecter seat) but is is actually high beam. I also have a pass light, which flashes my high beam.

I really do piss myself when people say their bikes have hazard lights, this is an american thing. I thought it was only Harley's who had hazard lights because they were a hazard dueto the low speeds and always sitting at the sideof the road.

Why not everyone flash our lights at each other when we pass just to see who has got lights and then the ones with hazards can do their hazards at everyone
