Hi all, i'm looking for a CDI unit for a GSX250s Katana 1993. I have asked many wreckers and no one seems to have one that fit this particlular bike, i can get a brand new one ex japan at asmall fortune of $981.00 which is out of the question at this stage ($$$)

Bike is a Japanese import and will run on either of the following two CDI units (removed from other katanas for trials)

32900 - 35d30
32900 - 45d00

HELP PLEASE!!!!!

cheers

Im guessing you dont have one at all?

theres a thing about replacing some capacitors in the 250 gsf bandits to solve a weak spark isssue...

From what I've read in mags a lot of bike manufacturers use the same parts with their own part number and badge on it. Finding and comparing the specs of your CDI unit with others you might find a unit from another brand or an aftermarket unit that works.

If you could find a specialist bike sparky on the net and fire them an e-mail they may be able to cross-reference one. Not sure if there are any bike electricians in NZ but probably are some in Oz or the UK

Also some bike manufacturers used different part numbers on the same part for different models. Maybe a GS or GSXR 250 unit would work. Again check with an auto electrician before you try one.

do you need just the capacitor itself ? or control unit aswell ? because the capacitor itself.... you know they are all the same. get one form some honda from wreeckers. just make sure the resistance's are the same (since these are cap's it's hard to measure.. just make sure it's not blown...)

The whole thread is starting to confuse me at this point, and I'm pretty bloody on the case with these things most of the time.
A CDI is the box that controls ignition timing.
It is full of capacitors, and very fuckin hard to find the one, (ones) that are cooked.
Replacment is easiest, and if you have the time, dont have to come from the same bike.
Find a CDI from a similar bike, get a wiring diagram for your one and the other bike, then start cross referencing. you might need to change a few pin positions in the plugs, but it can be done with nothing more than time and patience.

um, judgeing from what ive read on banditalley you just cut the cdi open and replace the 4 capacitors (2 of each type)......

mind you, one of my bros is a sparky, the other an electrical engineer and im a comp tech so mabye this just seems easy to me?

yeah whatever!!! electrical stuff freaks the hell out of me, i'm a boatbuilder so hardly any experience in stuff like this....
Maybe... i don't need a whole CDI unit but only the fried capacitor or whatever BUT i dunno... was just told to get a new one....
1 x CDI = 1000 x confusion in my book :-)

if you can use a soldering iron youll be fine, just dont put the new capicitors round the wrong way

mabye find someone else who can look at/do it for you?

by the way, my cdi is on a tray in a box that clips on the inside, hence the cutting open part.

I revise my opinion.
I have an FJ1200 with a fucked cdi, and i just went out and pulled it apart, trew the multimeter over a few bits, and found him broken bit. broke out the soldering iron, and presto, off to dick smith tomorrow to get capasitor, condensor, diode, or whatever else those little cylinder shape thingy's are called.
