I am riding with a friend to this event and if there are others from Auckland who wish to join us they would be welcome. Our bikes are 900 Hornet and SV 1000. Speed would (should) be modest i.e. if pinged a small fine only should result. However the "red mist" can on occassion take over. We are meeting Friday (12th) 1:15pm at the big service station that is on the pull over around Takanini (?). Route taken will be determined by the weather. If the weather is good :sunny: we will tiki tour a bit but knock it out in the afternoon. If the weather is shite it is likely we will go to Taupo and stay there the night (camp ground cabin(s)):zzzz: , and do Taupo - Napier Saturday morning. The return trip on Sunday will depend on the day... We are both 40(ish) blokes lucky enough to have leave passes for the weekend for which we are VERY VERY grateful and expect to pay for this excursion many times over especially as it is Mothers Day on Sunday and we won't be there! :nya:
If you want to join us reply to this thread and describe bike / self so we know who to look out for. Tim.
I'm keen to head down ... I had thoughts of going the long way around via East Cape. But would probably be a long Friday ride. I heard on the telly that Taupo camp ground is no more ... so wouldn't rely on those cabins. They were a great cheap stopover .. used them too but no more. Taupo council reclaimed the land ... cunning stunts ...

Hi, thanks for the reply. the cape will be too far for us. You are correct the taupo municipal camp ground has recently closed. We were considering De Bretts at the start of the Taupo Napier road. It has a number of budget options (plus bar, restaurant, hot pools). Over to you to confirm if you wish to ride with us. Tim.

see you lads when you get down here. Look out for me at the duck, young fella with a mullet. Will be on a fzr750 with one headlight taped over, parked next to a black/gold gb400 and a black gs1200ss. Answer to Daniel, Froggy or "hey you"

Thanks Daniel, we are looking forward to it. The bikes are serviced, packed, gassed - ready to go. We will include Hwgy 50 and the Tiko pub. I also need to squeeze in a visit to my parents in Dannevegas at some point. We will keep an eye out for that mullet! Later. Tim.
