Recently the first anniversary passed for the death of one of our own. I noticed in the original thread from the time of Flyin's accident that a memorial ride was suggested and supported by several members. I did not know Sam, however heard about the accident at the time and since joining KB have clearly seen the impression the young man made in this Forum.
May I propose a KB ride to Gladstone this Sunday, Departing Caltex Rimutaka at 11.00.
As I say, I did not know Sam and feel a little "out on a limb" here. It could have been me though, or you, doing what we love. Let's honour the memory of a friend to many and fellow KB'er.

Sunday looks better weatherwise too. I was planning on attending another local ride on Sunday, at the end of the day, as long as I'm riding I'm happy.
Sunday. Come on Welly!!!

Sounds like a nice idea, both of us will hopefully be able to make it Sunday after watching 'Worlds Fastest Indian' on Saturday night on the projector, never know, may pick up some tips on how to ride, lol. Any idea of leaving time?

Might I suggest a leisurely departure time from Caltex Rimutaka at say 11.00?
Meet up at 10.30 - 10.45
Over the Taka's, out to Martin's Borough (Coffee at the Fish of course) & up the back road to Gladstone.

Bikes in bits at the moment, damn broken fairings. But may chuck it partly together. Well at least road legal and come for a ride. We will see how much I get done to the bike on saturday.
So at the moment a maybe.......
I'm in for that. Shame about Sam, He was a bloody good bloke!
Sounds good, we can do "Wasp's welly weekend wide" the weekend after.
Might be a good idea to update the top post with all the details etc etc

Can't come on Sunday as I am on call, so here's a video I made earlier.
The first left hander is the crash site.
I'd just bought the R6 in April last year and was running it in through the backroads of the Wairarapa when I first met Sam. He was a bit out of breath and had lost the group he'd tagged on to - Deano, Flame, Jimbo, et al, but he was just having the best time.
I took him through some of these roads shown in the vid a couple of times, talking about things like reading the terrain to spot which way the road goes, and checking for stuff like driveways and live stock, not just other traffic, when making overtaking moves.
Practically every time I went for a ride April 2005 I'd bump into Sam, happily grinding undercarriage and exhaust off his bike.
He was calm, polite, respectful, self-effacing, and he listened. Everyone who met him thought he was one of the "good guys" and someone who would make a fine long term motorcyclist. Intelligent, passionate, and a bit of a laugh.

Good stuff posting this Max. I'm back in Welly now so will be up for the ride. You might want to change the title of the thread though so folk know what its all about.
See you there.
