Its a suzuki... what would you expect?? It can't help but crash itself.... :blah:

Bugger:crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:
Well, a crash is easily understood. But this does not appear to have been crashed. There looks to be no damage other than the broken frame, and a cracked rocker cover (from the engine face planting the road?).
Maybe a wheelie that went horribly wrong. I would not care to have been riding it at the time.

I'd agree with you on the wheelie if there were any scuff marks on the paint, but everything looks in mint condition. Surely if it was moving at the time it would show the evidence of even a little slide.
True. And even the zorsts are unscratched. If the frame broke while moving you'd expect the bike to go for a big slide on it's side. Or cartwheel. But I can't believe it was just sitting there on its stand and the frame decided to give up the ghost.
EDIT And it takes on hell of a force to break a frame completely in two!
Oh, well if you're going to be LOGICAL about it!

Should be a good buy. My guess is often wheelied, then they saw/felt the gaping crack (that sounds almost pornographic!) and decided to remove the steering head etc in the comfort of their garage.
Wonder how hard it is to find an undamaged TL frame. Otherwise welding it up shouldn't be tooo much of a drama.

if its all in good running nick you reckon it could be a good buy for someone with the skillz to fix it?
I think you'd need more than skillz. That's a hellishly stressed joint, and modern frames are not a simple welding task at the best of times. Plus you'd need to make a jig to align everything. I've straightened a few frames in my day, but this would be a job for the experts. Second hand frame, maybe.

When TL's first came out, I 'borrowed' our demo on a regular basis.
No matter how many wheelie attempts I fucked up, never seen the frame let go there.
Where the rotary damper mounts to the rear of the frame yeah....but NEVER there!
Saw another one broken like that somewhere. Might have been at a swap meet in Hamilhole, 2, 3, 4 years ago??? Probably not the same bike, as the one I saw was red. Can't recall whether the front end was bent or not, but it was there, so I'd guess not.

hmmmmmmm ...Go kart motor...
they have 8 un answered questions so far.
not marks but the tail section looks slightly different color from the tank.
id say it was in an accident previously, and it has just broken again. either bad weld or was never picked up after the first accident.
and when ya straighten a bike after a prang it usually weakens the frame slightly.
its a weird one.
hmmmmmmm ...Go kart motor...
that would make a mean go kart motor.
be good for spares.

Looks to me like it's run wide at a corner and landed in a ditch - hence the lack of scratches. They've gone fast into it and the front wheel has planted into something soft, hence snapping it's neck.
I imagine the rider continued forward at some speed, and for some time. This would have sucked a *lot*.

Fuck $1800 for a buy now, thats a fucken bargin, if i still had my TL i'd snap it up, and with only 24,000km on the donk it's still a minter, you'd pay $1800 for a complete motor alone, i wouldn't be too fussed on fixing the frame rather get a new one, but if you got a TL already, buy this bike.

its screaming 'TRACK BIKE, TRACK BIKE' at me and im quietly replying "no fucking money!"
would be mint for a track bike, would probably be a total ass to get it back on the road and make a decent resale on it. Unless of course all the fairings etc are there still.
pissed off ex with an angle-grinder?
and yup, would make an excellent project, good enough buy now price to make a go-cart / buggy etc.
(I could collect & store if a KB out of towner buys it and cant collect immediatly)

'andrew', the member selling said bike - a tardme member since 2003, no feedback, all those unanswered q's (he's obviously seen them for them to be posted on the auction)? why selling on someone's behalf? is it too hard to set up an account? dodgy.

Unless the bike was involved in an accident where the rider was killed or badly injured and the family want nothing to do with the bike? Long shot I know...

Bugger , am I going to be in trouble with the wife for buying that with her trademe account!
My TL is up to 78,000kms or thereabouts , this should provide enough spare parts to keep her going a while.
I need new cans and The spring unit, hopefully its got less wear on the disks a spare engine for parts will handy longterm.
Man am I in trouble though!

Bloody hell, I agree. Bit dodge. You'd have to fall pretty hard to do that. Hel's theory sounds about right though. If it killed someone it might be the behalf reason down to the ground. Trust someone in my crew to have a sensible answer eh?
Did you really buy it morepower?

Well ya never know, its funny how alot of things are not as they seem. At that price im sure it wont matter too much... Looks like you've got it sorted anyway!

Not wanting to put tar over the entire area, but i would carefully check the ownership.
you can ask the police if a bike is of interest to them (I used a form from a VTNZ station). and it's free to do it.
Good luck convincing your other half on the economic logic behind your buy... it is an excellent investment :-)

It looks like the front has parted with the rest of the bike in a violent manner as the forks look bent in the photo and if you look close the front disk looks to have some damage as well and I would expect the Tank to be damaged also. How this happened without damaging the res of the bike will be interesting?

Good enough reason to never buy a demo bike.....................
I did a more thorough job. The trick is to find something really solid to plant the front wheel into.

It may sound like your typical salesmans bullshit response, but what difference does it make if it's been done by a salesman (or test rider for that matter) compared to one that's had the same done to it by the previous owner(s)?
Answer......not one bit.

Don't stress mate, I certainly didn't take it in any way badly.
Merely wanted to say that ex demo's are no problem.
If you think about it, sports bikes are made for thrashing (who here with a sports bike doesn't think that they give it a wee bit of a workout now and then?!), and at least when they're owned by a dealer they generally get looked after mechanically regardless of cost.
Better that than a bike that's been owned and thrashed by someone that's over committed on HP and can't afford the service side of things.
There are probably quite a few people sifting about here that have purchased ex race bikes without problems.....often some of the best looked after bikes about.

I have found that the TL got planted in a car that failed to give way. It was stuck so well that it stayed upright , avoiding damage to the rear 1/2.

So tell us, how did your missus take the news?
And how is the rider?

How bad is it? Is it repairable? - Once you've used the bits you want and left bits from your bike over.. etc

Very well , I think she sees it as the lesser of 2 evils , as I have been talking replacement (TLR's) :).
I spoke with the owner , but have not seen him yet sounded OK.

I guess if you find a frame , radiator, etc at the right price.possibly . not really worth it .
