I've heard you can't do a defensive driving course if you have demerit points. Is this a myth or is it fact? LTNZ site isn't telling me anything and I need to be an AA member to access the info I want on thier site

If you mean the Car defensive driving course then you can still do it with demerits. I had a few when I did it a couple of years ago.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a myth. Just like the minimum age to get your licence turning to 16-18 every year. Hopefully I'll have my full this year

Yep, demerits is no problem. In fact some people do it cois either a judge has told 'em to cos they've been naughty, or their lawyer has told them to in the hope of soft soaping a judge later.

You are perhaps thinking of the now defunct CBTA course, where they would not allow you to do it if you had a bad record.

All you need to do is enroll, pay money , and turn up for 4 evenings of theory.

Do I still get to go for my Full 6 months earlier?

Yep. Cuts time on restricted from 18 months to 12 for an under 25. BUT - watch out, theres a gotcha. You MUST not do the course until AFTER you have had your restricted for 6 months. Otherwise they won't count it. so , restricted, wait 6 months, course, another 6 months, full.

Well aware of that. I had my licence for six months since the 18th last month

I'll pop into the AA sometime this week with any luck, get an idea on how much it will cost

rg150 to zx10r??? isn't the 10r the bike that scares the shit out of half the experienced riders? and by experienced i mean in bikes that size.
i've got dreams of a 6r by the end of the year :blip: money could be an issue which may end up with me riding a suzuki again

Went on my first Defensive Driving Course in 1974 - I guess I had a few demerit points as I lost my licence and was sent on the course as part of my punishment,in the hope that I would would mend my wayward ways.We got a little sticker to put on the window - so when the Cops stopped me and walked up to my car that had no WoF or rego he knew I was a pretty cool dude.....or perhaps that I had been a bit naughty....

All I can say, is that unless you are a big fuker a 600 is where it's at. That's where I'm heading when I get some money... in about 5 years.

I went into the AA after school. I have to phone 0800 223 748 to book myself in. I understand that you do 3 sessions over 1 week, each of them being between 2-2 1/2 hours long, and it'll cost $120. Since I'm going racing this weekend money is a bit tight so I won't be doing it just yet. Plus the sessions are in the middle of the day so it'd be best if I do it next holidays.

And I'm not likely to go straight to a 1000, but if I see a VTR1000 for cheap I'd be awfully tempted. I wouldn't be the first to go staight from a 150/250 to a 1000. One can dream...

was talking to vtec about the cbr...
yeah i was more talking about that litre bike in particular, (zx10r) there's a few 900's on my list of alternative bike to go onto, if i can't get a zx6r, i like the look of the sv650's, the rf900's, especially like the honda vfr400 and 750's cbr600rr's are nice, i don't like the f model tho, there's a shiny fzr400 on TM at the moment i like, but i don't get my full till end of the year, i'm pretty undecided, it'll probably just be whatever is in price range, looks good and reliable, but i want a zx6r eventually!
