Well nearly, unfortunatelly. How much are you ready to pay for a GPS device? I've been asking myself this question for a while. On the market there are a gazillion of offers, but most of them are worthed my lifetime savings. I heard about some GPS system called Nav4All, and it sounds like a good idea - something like 50 of the euro money. So any ideas?

NZ is too small to use a GPS to its full potential, unless you are a suburban mum with a minivan or a tourist.

I have a Garmin eTrex Vista GPS, paid $450 for it new, at the time DSE were selling them for $900, 3 years later theyre still selling em for $600 or so.

I mainly use the Trip Computer, Have it displaying moving time, total time, time of day, odomoter, current speed, max speed, moving average and overall average. You can customise the screen with about 35 different options. I have also loaded a full street map of NZ into it!

When purchasing one expect so spend about $400 for something decent, consider the internal memory so you can load better maps onto it, makesure it comes with a serial cable as they can be expensive to buy seperatley.

I also got the marine mount for mine so I can clip it on and off the bike easily.

PS, I just cheked the spot price on my GPS, $350 including DHL delivered to your door, so definatley do buy off DSE! (Or similar local dealers).

Christ Liam_NZ it does all that but doesn't tell you not to clean the chain with the bike running and in gear??? Shoulda got an expensive one. :)

Yep, thats why I paid $450 when DSE were selling em for $900, you can buy em online for $350 now and DSE are still arround the $600 mark!

I buy my units off a place in the US and get em DHL'd across ($350 was inc freight), however you may be able to get em cheaper from local places that parallel import now, havent looked for a while.

Nah, the FAQ's I was reading on how to clean your chain earlier that day told me not to do it while running in gear :Pokey:

I use a CF GPS in my iPaq, cost about $140. The software was maybe $12, its pretty simple but does most things I need. Probably only a cheap option if you have an iPaq to start with, or have a need for a handheld PC anyway.
It doesn't have the battery life or ruggedness to be used in the field for any length of time, but I still normally navigate old skool with map, compass and brain.
Perfectly suitable for vehicular tachymetry though.
