I cant buy my Red Bull in 330ml bottles anymore...well I havent looked real hard, but the normal places I go (servos, super-marché) only seem to have 250ml bottles and cans. Whats the deal? Is it the evil-doings of the cafeinne nazi's?

250ml is not enough.

I know man!!! but if you buy a can or bottle they are both the same size, but they reccomend only 1 bottle per day or 2 cans. it is quite strange really. I also admit im a caffine addict.

Buy the concentrated stuff in the little bottles from asian supermarkets. I don't think it has too much english on the bottle, but you'll recognise the symbol. Knock a couple of these back and you'll be off.......

I read a piece of paper the other day, and i believe it said they were taking them out of circulation. Not sure why, possibly it was cheaper to make them one volume only.

I was in Gilmours (where dairy's buy their stock) a couple of months back and was horrified to see an official Red Bull poster above the new 250mL bottles "Maximise sales with smaller bottles" or something to that effect... pricks.

Bit like the pubs and petrol really- they know once you're hooked, you have to have it, so they can stiff you large

man that was all that kept me going on the solo coro loop missions, leave home at 6am, stop for gas, scull a red bull, arrive home for a coffee by 9am. got to be a habit, the coffee was just to help me come down slowly..8-)

I've noticed the same ... I got quite excited when I found I could buy 2 bottles for $5. Then was rather gutted when I noticed the cans were the same size.

My advice: Buy 2 x 250ml - 1 x 350ml was never quite enough!

No offence sunhuntin, but your workmate would have had to have other problems/causes for 7 bottles to have any life threatening effect.

If all it took was 7 bottles neither myself nor a single Geek/LANer I know would be alive. I've frequently seen 2-3 dozen consumed (including by yourstruely), that's not including coke/lollies/bk/etc in up to a 48 hour period.

Not recommending doing it, but would put the stuff in the same basket as coffee, coke, <insert your mild stimulant here>.

Don't drink much of the stuff (either Red Bull or V) these days mainly due to $$$. Too many other things for the cash to go on.

Think what I'm saying is anything can kill you. Take Leah Betts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leah_Betts) for example. Died from drinking 7 litres of water in less than 90 minutes. On the other hand, it's amazing what people can build up a tolerance to (as in live through). Take Mr A (http://www.guardian.co.uk/drugs/Story/0,,1746333,00.html) who consumed approximately 40,000 E's over a 9 year period. True he's pretty messed up now, but still alive.

No real point to this post. Just a stream of consciousness.

They changed to 250ml due to the low sales volume of the 350ml. Or so the rep told me.

I'm a V fan too, and yes I noticed the effect is less and less as time goes on.
I know the V craving well, if there is a can in the fridge I can swear I hear it calling my name!
My theory is it is not caffeine addiction, but a sugar craving. I did a experiment where upon on getting the V craving I had a small glass of coke and the V craving went away immediately. Most people do not realize that sugar is a drug and VERY addictive! (they also have no idea they are addicted, don't believe me? Try giving it up, and that includes processed foods that have it in them, and see how you go!)
I also noticed I used to get in a foul mood if I'd not had a V for 2 days!

I don't know if I should be telling you this, but if you cycle through the diff brands of energy drink, the buzz does not dissipate as much! I think that different drinks effect different people in different ways. (I've tried Red Bull twice now and absolutely nothing, I suspect V would be like that for some Red Bull drinkers)
That red lizard stuff the warehouse had for a while was rocket fuel!
V is still my fave though!
Interestingly, V is illegal to sell in the States.

If you're worried about sugar (or your weight) try the sugar free one. I prefer the black myslef, chicks mostly like the red one.

I can't stand any of those drinks, they are just so sweet! It takes a shit load of bourbon to make them drinkable. But someone gave me 3 cans a couple of weeks ago...so I drank them during the day instead of my coffee. That night was hell,I couldn't get to sleep until 3.00am,I was a bit worried as I could hear my heart banging away and I was thrashing around...they certainly have an effect, but don't pick me up during the day.

I noticed the other day, when I gave the red one one more chance that it seems less like brake fluid now compared to when it was released, must of had a flavour adjustment.

oh yeah and black all the way

No, being a retard contributed to his death. It clearly states a recommended dosage, and caffine is still a substance you don't want too much of to quick last time I checked.

Asked about this, apparently the daily dosage was too high with the larger bottles. I'm like, 'but V has 330ml bottles!' Apparently since V isn't an international company, they've got different regulations to comply to. Or something like that... sounds plausible enough.

Im sure im not dead yet. No idea how 7 bottles of the stuff could kill anybody. I would often drink that much when pulling all nighters or drinking etc. It doesnt give me a buzz but if i dont have it I will fall asleep regardless.

can someone elaborate?

Ixion
10th May 2006, 15:25
V contains caffeine and a bunch of vitamins. Those things are regulated in some countries and not in others ie in the ones where they are regulated the product has to be registered with some authority. And the rules vary from country to country about how much is allowed of each thing.

V complies with the "rules" in NZ, Australia, UK and South Africa. In the States it would need to be registered with the FDA, which is a complex and expensive business, so it has never been done. Which is why it is not able to be sold there . That, and setting up a dirstribution network in the States is REAL expensive.

Other markets may also require registration, essentially V is a NZ and Oz drink.

There is a recommendation of a maximum of 2 cans daily. Though I drink about that much an hour.

The reason it keeps you awake is the caffeine, the caffeine and the vitamin B3 is why you feel you're heart is beating faster.

Would have had a heart condition or a similar weakness. Caffeine puts a strain on the heart (as do party pills, speed, methamphetamine etc).

The issue with drinking V or Red Bull with alcohol is that booze is a depressant, and caffeine is a stimulant. One is trying to slow your body down and the other is trying to speed it up. This puts a lot of strain on your heart especially. If you're healthy no probs, if you have a history of heart disease I wouldn't recommend too many vodka tequila red-bulls.....

Competition is Red Bull. It's handled through an agent over there, it's not a major market.

For a NZ company to enter a mass consumption product into a big market like the UK or USA is pretty difficult. You have to make a committment in terms of manufacturing capacity, sales staff etc that is maybe 20 times the size of anything in NZ. And it's not somethign you can do on a "start small and grow big basis" for the mass amrket you have to go in boots and all. That means a big risk of taking your eyes off the ball nearer to home.

Manufacturing capacity is the biggest constraint, you can't increase it quickly or cheaply, and you definately can't back out later on.

Why is that? They sell it in the UK...

Ixion
10th May 2006, 16:24
Because the manufacturers have not registered it with the FDA, the US Food and Drug Adminstration, the regulatory agency - like our Health Dept. Because they are not interested in the US market (at present at any rate)

It's not as good as the original Red Bull from Sweden (?) I had a bottle of that when I was in Denmark a few (quite a few) years ago - didn't sleep for 2 days!!
