To eveyone who participated in the drags, can you let me know what your best time was. We weren't able to keep a record of everyone's times. Have been reading the April issue of Rapid bikes magazine - they have a Bragging Board from recent Tri-State Clash and interestingly, we seem to have had people doing faster times at our day. So can you please let me know your best time (honest answers please).

From going through the original thread, I have times for the following:

dss3 - R1 - 10.38
2much - GSXR1000 - 10.69
Motoracer - R6 - 10.98
Blackbird2 - CBR1100 - 11.04
Death - GSXR750 - 11.08
Zed - 954 - 11.14
CaN - X11 - 11.62
affman - GSXR600 - 11.63
gareth_d - R6 - 11.77
CaN - YZF - 12.6
Draco - CBR400 - 12.7

i'm a little confused (SP?)
at least 12 years ago we held a 1/4 mile drags on a road in nelson. a friend of mine had the latest gsxr1000 (single large headlight one) and he managed to get a high 9s .... this was mesured by lights etc. ...
now on a proper drag track the times seam to be slower....
why is that?... is it beacuse nelson is closer to the sea:nya:

Part of the reason is road tyres actually have less grip in the starting area. If you're running warm drag tyres and they put some fresh VHT down, then the drag strip would be stickier.

Also, I reckon if your mate just jumped on a stock Gixxer Thou (edit: 12 years ago? don't you mean an 1100? The 1000 has only been around since 00/01) and ran a high 9, he was really lucky and/or very practiced...

Also, the exact measurement of the track is important. I've run a 10.38 on a "standing quater" on a closed public road on mY GSXR600K3. Turns out that their measurements are not completely accurate and it's not quite a 1/4 mile. You can also take off before the first timing beam, meaning you've got more "run up" before starting the clock.

The only way to get truly accurate times is on an established drag strip with proper staging lights.

Random guess here.
Both the launch and the gearing would appear to me to account for a lot.

The YZF 750 was hitting full speed in top about 75m from the line. If I had taken the rear down a couple of teeth I feel I would have hit full speed right on the line and it would have been a higher full speed.

Conversely the X11 was crossing the line at about 7000 in 4th, still at least 3000 of powerband to go. If I went up a couple of teeth I would have been peaking in 4th and got there quicker. Either way I would have the same number of gear changes.

I believe that per chance some of the bikes would have been geared ideally for the strip and others wouldn't. That could explain why a bike like say Boomer's 600 did so well against larger, theoretically quicker bikes.

When did the gsxr1000's first come out as a matter of interest?

WTF? I set a North Island record on a 1986 GSXR1100 in 87 I think. It was a stone chip road in the Waiarapa.
Was it damp or somthing?
Oh yeah, my record was not entered into the books because I was on a day license and classified as a B grader :oi-grr:
( I know people that can verify though, which is good as self justification is mental masterbation as they say)

It's been 3/4 years but on my old 12r:

9.933 at 147.05mph( at a strip)

and 305kmh in a flying

both were done on the same gearing.
