So I had a slight noise comming from my steering head when I was doing jumps, so off it came. Fuck me they weer rooted!! I later found out that you should never put teh breather pipe down that hole. Great place to put it, but it's going to wash all the grease out. then you get teh rust rusty....
bum....
anyway only 2 hours of my time and $67 to fit new bearings.
I've got a pic, but I can't attach it. Have I done somethign bad??? had rights removed?

Oh dear cheese looks like your got a small problem their! so thats why my old man told me never to put my gas tube down the steering tube.
here's a good tip add a ziptie to your handle bar (leaving a gap big enough for your tube to fit through), put tube through tube facing towards the front of the bike, and when you crash this means you don't get gas allover yourslelf and not much on the bike.

Just replaced the wheel and rear suspension bearings and seals on my old KDX. First time ever apart. All were buggerred. But both upper and lower steering head tapers were all pristine and just needed fresh grease!
That bike has been on beaches, fully submerged, used and abused and water blasted all over, 100s of times.

What a fucking mess! Don't you get embarassed when people see that?
Here's the cool way - pop the bonnet of your mothers car and snoop around all the hoses and pipes...there are some real nice clips there...I like the ones that swivel, they clip over the cross brace and then you clip the breather pipe to it.Want to refuel? Just unclip the hose to remove the cap, clip back on when finished. You can clip to other cables,on the bars, brake pipes, wiring - just find a size to suit.

hahahahaha oh that is the most classic line ever!
Hey do you thing you could write a how to on suspension and a mod could sticky it? I really want to work on my shocks but I'm a bit scared to. They aren't set up right and I was going to do the oil and stuff in my fronts, but the rear seams to be the biggie....

OK after thinking it is best not post on this, but what the hell I will.
Just a thought.
If your breather tube is in your steering head tube.
And your steering head bearings are on the other side of the steel tube.
How does the fuel get from one side of the tube to the other side to wash the grease out of the bearing?
When it will normally just run out the bottom of the steering head tube and on to your front mud guard.
I think that the biggest problem is that not many people ever grease them.
And water-blasters do a great job of removing grease from the steering head bearings.

With mine, the fuel would go to the bottom, and the only way out is throught he lower bearing.
