Where do you park in Auckland city centre and why? Where are the safest and most conspicous spots (against thieves)? Also, do any parking garages welcome bikers?

I JUST PARK ON THE FOOTPATH OR IN DISABLED PARKING SPACES

Free parking for bikes at Aotea Centre underground car park. Just ride round the barriers, go round the outside, bike areas at each end (by the entry to Borders, and opposite at the other end). Ride round the barrier again when you leave.

Bike parks by the Library, and in Elliott St I think. Or down by Britomart, in that bit with the wierd air venty things.

Or, just park where you see other bikes, that's what I do.

You can park in Chancery Square, just behind High St, legally.

Otherwise, park in Vulcan Lane, or somewhere kinda out of the way. Or downtown car park is also free, and probably the safest.

Don't park by Auckland Uni, had some shits there try and screwdriver my nice, shiney bike one day.

Are there bike shops in Queen St now? Other than that I can't see a single reason to go near the place.Haven't parked a bike there since the 246 days.

Obesity is not a disability, it's a lifestyle choice.

Wow, hey, back up there buster. Disabled people don't want to be treated any differently right? I once caught a disabled person parking in a standard park. Did I say anything? No. Two can play at that game buddy.

Oh FINN,you wouldnt be painted with the same brush as WINJA by any chance would you,the fact that you can park any where you wish and walk half a mile to your destination or ten metres to a shop or waat ever without thinking twice about it,try doing it in a wheelchair or getting out of a car into a wheelchair in a normal car park,me thinks you would change yar mind if it was you in the chair.

Same brush, differant paint (WINJA'S mum is a little brown, mine was a pale skinned Canuck) My mum had cancer and in her final years couldn't walk without a zimerframe (bit like my wife after I give her the old tickle). She would never use the disabled parking. She was one tough mother.

There are more disabled people abusing the disabled parking than able people.

So how do you ride a motorbike?

Sky city parking is good. Put it next to an exit up on the kerb where the ticket booth people can see it. Then just drive around the barriers to get out. I do this all the time without any problems. Even leave it there all night if Im on the turps.

All these places are FREE for motorbike/scooter to park.

Aotea Square carpark - 2 area's allocated to 'Bikes ONLY'.
Sky City carpark - near prepay exit up on the islands to the left.
Auckland City Library - heaps of spaces marked 'Bikes ONLY'
Auckland Uni - near the theatre entrance marked 'Bikes ONLY'

Footpath - but near the roadside so as to NOT obstruct pedestrians walking.

Do NOT knock the arm barriers going in and out of Sky City and Aotea Square and you wont be given a hard time.

Never ever park in a 'Disabled' carpark - they are allocated to people with disablities for a reason. If you do park in a disabled carpark, then do expect some abuse.

But in West Auckland shopping areas - DONT park on the footpath as the traffic wardens will issue you with a ticket. Yet it is ok in Auckland City.

Well, I just did my bit as parking Nazi this arvo. Went up to the local Red Shed (parked on the entrance way), and watched while two women in a people mover thing drove into the Disabled space next to where I was parked, jumped out , and strolled into the Shed.

Checked the vehicle, no "Disabled" sticker (was plastered with 'Come to God' messages, but. ): so I dobbed them in to the Warehouse security guard.

Who really did NOT want to know but finally said he'd do something about it. Doubt he did though. Dunno if there is anything else one can do.

One of the few motoring things I really dsiapprove of that. Not even like it was one of those where they have a row of 20 or so of them , and they're all empty. The one they parked in was the only one.

If you google "auckland city motorcycle parking" it'll tell you all the spots. The Victoria carpark also has some free mbike parking - parked there this morning. Dunno how secure it is though - there were notices up for some goes Moto Guzzi that was stolen from there in March. I notice most of the bikes/scooters had locks on.

If you start ranting and raving they are just going to piss themselves laughing at you. :slap: :corn:

Going to??? I already AM!!

Digsaw mate, they are getting a good rise out of you. Chill.

I don't park in disabled parks, but i virtually park anywhere that i may be able to get away without a ticket. Haven't had one yet!!

Also somewhere with good foot traffic so that it isn't easily carted off or vandalised.

A dude at Auck uni had his mint new sports bike picked up and chucked down a hill by some punks...so i heard.

DAWNRAZOR, I guess you dont get it,my example is i dont use disabled parking places like some of the people on this site as free parking.
I have a permit which costs a some of money that i have to have to use such a parking place,i all so ride a motor cycle just like you and others and have never parked my bike in disabled car parking space.

why not lead by example!

just hope the school of hard knocks dont come your way too soon.

Just because people say they do something doesn't mean they actually do it - in the realative anonymity of the web bullshit is common place.

I've seen plenty of able bodied CAR drivers use the disabled parking, BUT never seen a biker in one - HAVE YOU (3 wheeled rascals don't count).

I think thats the point here, anyway I get much more pleasure parking in able bodied car parking spots and pissing off the car drivers instead!

I saw that place this morning - but behind the cage-like door is a list of prices - are they for bikes or for cars? Is Victoria really free for bikes?
