here is a tale..of big fines, some busniessmen with funny uniforms and 3 average people.

heading back down tamahere (SH1 towards hamilton) on me KLR 650 with my girl on the back, around 7 at night, 100kph when i see a single headlight appears in the mirror, and its catching me, as he passes i sees its a norton....hmmmm...maybe a 850 commando? he passes me at about 130, 140, (here comes the silly bit)
a thought of, i wonder if my 2003 4 valve DOHC 650 water cooled single can keep pace with a old school 850cc brithish engined bike...so i opened it up, and gave chase...traffic was low, the roads were straight, i was in full gears boots, pants, jacket, helmet, gloves,we hit 150 and yes, i could gain on him, and just pass him, then i think the KLR hit the limiter, and slowed down, big time!
so i went back to 90, about 1 kph down the road i wanted to check it out, but then one of em Fed's arrived on me tail, for him he just asked for my lisence, and came back to ask me to move down to where MR commando had also been caught.
i did want to meet this dude, just to see what kinda person he was.
anyway, mr commando had had a few (not too many), and was about 40, we had a chat, saw teflon and a few other KB'r roll past (around the riverlea auto wreckers) the cop fined me 1300 bucks, took away my lisence for 28 days (clocked at 141 kph..damn) and told us to trailer our bikes home.
i guessed we despised the tax collector as much as the people back in jesus day...but mr commando was a good sort, and trailered the kwaka home to my place using his gear, trailer, and his wife came to get us...bloody good man!

i cant take this too seriously though, i cant see it being dangerous to anyone but me, i was well prepared, its my life, and it was fun racing a old british bike, the Fed asked me why i was speeding, and i thought hmm...fun? he kept asking me, and i kept telling him.
see ya guys in 28 days!

Agree with the freedom guy... been there, and it sucks, but it all blows over, and don't let them put you off riding how you feel. Just learn from it, and hope that what you've learnt helps prevent you getting caught in the future.

Shit - bad luck dude.

If I tried to do that with my good lady on the back she'd sure as shit try out the Vulcan testicle grip on me. I once "rocketed" (read 'slowly accelerated') up to a heady 130 with her on the back, at which point she nearly broke my back with the number punches she threw at me. Apparently it's safer to hit someone whose riding a bike than to ride at 130Ks on an open road with no traffic around.

Wimmin. Can't live with them can't bury them and claim they were kidnapped by a heard of marauding Wilderbeest. Life's so unfair.

Sigh...

There is very little romance left in the world these days eh? Sadly, what should have been an epic battle turned sour eh.. drat...

I chappie I know once raced a top dressing plane up the Esk Valley road on his old Triumph Trophy (no, not me) and wrote a great story about it. The pilot saw the bike and came alongside sorta thingy.

Special dispensation should be allowed for acts of heroisim!

Unfortunately, we are all 'boy racers' now eh!

Bugger...

something nice. If she hadnt slowed you down at the time he zapped you... it could have been FAR worse. Personally I would never ever get sucked into the old... Passed me eh prick.. I will show you..... egoish trap with a pillion on yet alone a lady. Did you let her know what you had in mind?? Interested to know if the cop had some words to you re that fact?? Was she impressed with the fact theres no riding for a month and no cash for that holiday or whatever planned?? I know the feeling. Not putting you down because we all do silly things at times and hay we learn, we remember and most of all we laugh at it years down the track. At least no injury involved. Cheers and spend the time doing the bike up or polishing her or something.

got my lisence back!:first:
28 days over!
now for another tale, me and a friend were cutting through ruakura research centre on fri night at about 11pm
we pulled up to look at some buffalo:gob: and a ute pulled up behind us, we rode forward thinking we were in his way, but he kept tailgaiting us, so for some reason:blip: i opened up the kwaka and but some space between him and me, my friend however with 11hp on tap (honda NXR 125) couldn't do the same thing, so he faked a left turn, but did a right and flicked off his lights and headed back the way we came.
whilst doing that i had managed to but about 30-40m between me and mr security(the small in-roads are unlit)
now to exit the place there is a pedestrian access place, its between 2 stone pillars, about 1.5 m high and 1 m wide.
as i flashed past a "25" sign doind 3x the recomended  speed i lined up the kawasaki for a speed bump, the ute was doing its best to catch me, i glanced in my mirrors and took the chance.
i hit the brakes hard and proceeded to literallty scrape the kwaka through, it just fitted, as i powered off i saw the ute hard up against the pillars, unable to get through.
hell, what a fun chase, i actually rung the place and apologised though, all this police and no lisence crap made me a bit jumpy.
but we both got away!:scooter:

Just wanted to ask the folks who gave carver a hard time, if they read the part about little traffic, and straight roads?
Lay off, I'm sure we've all given the bike a squirt with a pillion in the past.
Cool that you got your licence back bro.

Sorry to hear about your momentary indiscretion, $1300 is a lot of money, what were you charged with??

From what I heard from a little bird in the sky, 39kmph over the limit is $400 and 49kmph over the limit is $630 isn't it?? So where did the other $670-$1100 come from??

Hope the loss isn't too great and things are all back to normal soon. :niceone:

as a ex mot cop and current cop of 18 years service i think if what ya saying is true, he booked ya for is a bit harsh.

booking ya for riding a 650cc on a resticted licence and carrying a passenger is double dipping in my book. must of been a bit short on his tickets for the day.

Doh!
what were you doing getting caught in the 1st place?
You have a KLR, find yourself an itsy bitsy gravel road to have some fun on, you don't find too many cops on those.
