View Full Version : Akl Thurs NIGHT RIDE and Drinks 11th May @ 6.30pm******WESTGATE MEETING PLACE*****

9th May 2006, 18:20
Hopefully this weeks thread won't get hijacked :nya:

What: A ride up north in da dark finishing with a cold one
When: Thursday night after work on the 11th May
Where: Shell WESTGATE (end of the North Western Motorway)
Why: To get your fix for the mid-week blues:crybaby:
Time: Meeting there from 6.30pm departing @ 7pm
Pace: Open to all (As long as you can ride at least 100kph - not to say that we ride that speed all the time in the dark)

I'm doin the rides not for so much the riding itself (very limited with time and what you can do with it) but the social get-together at the Speights Ale House (Oteha Valley Road, Albany) afterwards. So if you can't make the ride, try and make the pub and meet fellow Kbers! The food is fine and a huge variety of beers to choose from. We are there from 8pm onwards.:apint: :drinknsin

The route will be discussed on the night.:Police: For those worried about distance/time the ride will last for approx 1hr - 1half and is 70kms long. We start at Westgate and finish up at Albany. :chase:

- Remember I dont want to see anyone turn up with a tinted/irridium visor on! Any chance to lessen the risks we take in our riding the better! (If you dont have a clear visor, may I suggest buying/borrowing a pair of clear saftey glasses and keep ya tint visor up....)

- Darkness = Slower speeds (self explained...)

Remember this ride is WEATHER PERMITTING - I will post up in the thread if it is postponed due to weather. I will decide on the day and post after 5pm.:sunny:

Disclaimer: You participate on this ride at your own risk. I will not be held accountable for anyones actions, to/from and during the ride.. Anyone who is caught endangering others by their actions will be asked to leave the ride and may be refused entry to forthcoming rides! As seen on last weeks thread........:kick:

na, its just the L brackets i wanna look at.
need em so i can put a low rack on there for the missus to grab onto. saves her sliding down the seat under braking and crushing ma nuts :(

cycletreads said ventura have to custom make them up since its an old bike and they dont stock them anymore... custom = cant return if it doesnt fit :(

wot happened to the lincoln road meeting place??
Ive changed it back for 2 reasons, 1. People are just used to turnin up there and counting its on....... 2. Being further south than Westgate it cuts into the time riding around up north, so it takes longer to get into the 'riding area'. The main reason I changed it to Lincoln rd was because I was planning on taking the group through Waitakere Road but didnt in the end, the traffic really sucks in that area @ night.

fickle female? hehe ;)
well if you guys think youre better - go ahead and organise your own ride. Pretty brave comment from someone whos scared to ride in the dark..........

I hope custard doesn't put up with statements like that :innocent:

Sorry hun - can't make it tonight (not like I've been a regular). Good luck though. It's not looking too bad at the mo (i.e. occasional showers - not riding trhough sheets of rain)

SwanTiger
11th May 2006, 16:55
The weather is not looking so great from Silverdale and the weather forecast suggests occasional showers and thunder-storms.

To the East looks pretty with blue sky and scattered cloud. The West looks like Thunder storms.

Never ridden in a thunder-storm before :ride:

We can just cut the ride short tonight, get a wee bit in but not the whole route if you guys want.............

SwanTiger

hey swanny hoes a hyosung go like??

I've done over 100kmp/h on it once, I hit 113kmp/h and shat myself, I was on the motorway and didn't want to get a ticket or crash.

I'm still learning to ride it as well, so I'm really slow into and out of corners but I love to ride so I keep at it.

I'm usually left behind and last everywhere.

Qkchk
11th May 2006, 17:14

Good turnout for such a cold lousey night, guys! Was a pleasure to catch up with most of you and a couple of new faces. (sorry I didnt get to talk to some of you....) Plenty of food (nice desserts!) and beverages goin around. Was a quick, short ride from Westgate to Speights via Riverhead-Coastville Highway. As soon as we had started, the ride was over  Highlight of the night was Dovers new bike................ dear you ask.

No ride on next week but will resume back on the 25th. Got to head south so will miss out not only on the Thurs night ride, TD3 and also the Minimoto racing at Mt Wellington............hmmmm I can really pick my weekends. Family and friends call, so gotta do what I gotta do. See you guys on the 25th.

Me, myself, and my luke warm mince and cheese pie. :p

My wife and I got told early this evening that our back-up offer to purchase a house went through... so we went out and had a few drinks. :) It's a good thing I've got a couple of toys already. Hopefully I don't have to sell too many to pay this bloody thing back. :bye:

Maybe I should get to meet a few people by randomly inviting kiwibikers around enmass... see how much we can freak out the neighbours :p

Was a surprisingly pleasant ride given that I was on pillion and spent most of the time with my eyes closed holding on for grim death. Bit of a laugh watching Dover on his latest toy when I did have my eyes open though...

I particularly liked the fireplace at the new venue!

Good to meet some new people.

See you next time...

The new venue is heaps nicer than the previous pub.
Staff are much better looking too...

Ride was short and shite. The company at the pub made up for it :p

Had a good ride to westgate, didn't even get wet,Had a new tyre just put on so hadn't even had time to scrub it in,( Dover said,Bigger Chicken Strips Than what FINN has on his Tyre!!!!)
If you saw what Dover turned up on,with a tyre that wide you would be bound to have chicken strips,
A short ride to the pub,a good chat at the pub, nice cruise home still with no rain.

Better look out everyone, Dover's trying to set the new standard. Sport bikes are so yesterday. (Even tho it DID go ok for what is was.....)
