Well - today pissed me off. Nice day...me in a car and what seemed like every bloody person with a motorbike riding...grrrr. I saw Mark, and someone else (can't remember handle) on the CBR's and I must say, I like them alot. They seem to look better moving than on the show room floor.
Now a quandry has hit....my doctor has allowed me the priviledge of legal motorcycling once again.....however SWMBO thinks that buying a house would be a mighty fine idea.....now if only I can find an insurance company that will insure me.

Actually - if I had to shortlist bikes it would go ( in no order of preference)
1. 04 R1
2. 03 K1000 (it would have to be in orange)
3. 04 CBR600RR
4. 04 ZX6RR
5. KTM Super Motard
Not that I have been thinking about it. But the one I would really want is the new naked Fazer!!!!
Yep, lots of us got over the hill on Saturday. Quick run to Martinborough and back. Great way to clear the head after Friday night at the Stadium. Get back on a bike or risk insanity

So was that you as I came out of Maungaraki, on the Black and Silver fireblade.....also 04 Aprilia RSV, Mathu on the Brutale, two Aprilia Trueno's, MV Agusta ???
Bloody dreadful timing that - I was heading up to Kapiti but saw the posse and thought a QUICK detour up tha Taka's was in order.
Talk about an expensive convoy !!!

Nope that was Grant. I think I saw Mark & Dion when I was on the way down going towards U/Hutt.

Yup the other MV was Gary on a F4. Also one of the Tuono's was the "racing" version which is very nice.

I thought you looked a bit surprised
I managed to set off the Petone speed camera but I was coming towards it so I doubt I'll hear about it.
Matthew's right. Dion and I were after that group on our red CBR1000s. Joined them at Martinborough for the return trip. The black/grey CBR1000 rider is Grant. Seems someone else on this site just bought his SV650 he traded in (see thread NEW BIKES). Small world. The other guys were Ray and Kerry on Tuonos. Ray's is the Racing spec.
So Deano, not sure if you came up the hill or not? I remember waving to a red VTR SP at some point. Maybe it was you. Saw Matthew heading home.
By the way Matt I saw your bike parked opp. the Black Harp on Friday. That tall side stand is a worry. It really looked close to vertical. Lucky Wgtn doesn't get much wind or it might blow over.

All in all a great biking weekend! Over the hill yesterday -- I see Kerry Macdonald has got a green Z1000! Did the Wairarapa backroads, this time turning left at Alfredtown and coming out onto SH2 at Eketahuna. A nice fang over the Pahiatua track and back home via the backroad from Bainesse to Foxton (zoom zoom! The Zrex can really honk...). Today it was a quick strop to the coast via the 'Nui. I LOVE this road! Then up to the folks at Waikanae and just got home. What a fantastic night for riding... It would be a perfect night for a blast up to Taupo... *Sigh* And so to bed...

Yer I'm working at Mobil on the Park building for the next 6 months so that's the closest park. I think the road is a bit wonky there coz the bike stand is normally quite alright. I parked there a couple of times when I had the f4 and used to shit bricks whenever I heard the wind start up (f4 had an auto retract side stand). I tried parking on the Terrace above woodward st but I've seen far two many people doing 3-point turns by the large bike park there. Plus I usually don't get to work until 9am so that park can be full sometimes.
Funny thing about Mobil on the Park is that from the 23rd floor when the wind really cranks up you can stand still and feel the whole building sway slightly :sweatdrop
Mark: Saw Dion and Peter Kelly (on his S4R) in Martinborough on Sunday - first time I've seen Dion's new bike. Also saw Grant D on the Aprilia twice as we were sitting having coffee at the Fish.
And yes Hitcher, Kerry's got his new Kawasaki thou mid April I think it was, and he really loves it.
Airplane has bought the SV650 - is the Fireblade Grant's bought Steve's old one?

I was lucky enough to follow a brand new Z1000 (orange) this morning on the way to work.
Four gold anodised pipes, it was just BEAUTIFUL.
Had to give the rider the thumbs up as I passed him.
[sigh] :(
Guess I'll have to wait a couple of years before they hit the 2nd hand market.

It was an expensive convoy, and for a few glorious minutes, I was in front!
BTW, do MVs have a piston ring sealing problem? All the ones I've seen seem to smoke when accelerating (not tyre smoke, either)

Not that I know of. mangell6 noticed exactly that with my F4 and I saw it on Saturday when I was following Gary on his F4. Not sure if my Bruatale has the same "feature".
Maybe carbon builds up in the pipes and when you gas it it just gets blown out ??

Yeah, your one does it too. When you passed me I saw the smoke, and it looks like oil smoke (blue) rather than carbon (black soot).
If you had been running on a closed throttle the high vacuum could pull oil down the valve guides.
It was only a little puff, not the sort of thing I'd loose sleep over

Yer I think might be a quirk with the MV motors. A few of the US owners noticed the same thing but no-one has had any problems as far as I know. I did nearly 40,000k's on my F4 and it never missed a beat.
The way the Brutale sucks gas it might be unburned petrol pouring out !!

I just went to the top o the hill, not all the way to Mborough, then headed out the coast via Paekak Hill.
A chap on a brand spankers (just run in) ZX10R was at the top of the Taka's -pretty trick, but not as cool as the fireblade (of course). Also Orange Z1000 -looks like a cool stunt bike ?
So Mark, are you and Dion going to Manfeild on the 30th of this month ?

Come to Manfield, come to manfeild! Bring cameras and big grins.
How come you didn't come up for a game of pool on Thursday night, Mark? Too busy enjoying the new bike? It was good to have a yarn to Dion about his.
Can't wait to finnaly meet you guys on the road. :ride:

Looking forward to it. New bike so must take it easy - yeah right.
There seems be some keen interest for the 30th. On Thursday night a couple of guys said they would go (Craig, Bandit 12, Nick-Yam 600 Thunderace?) and atleast the racing Tuono is in.
Hopefully Whitetrash hasn't sold his 600. Or will it be a 750 by then?
And Johan (spelling?) can flog a 'road' bike from the shop. Nothing too powerful for the racer.
Lets organise a group ride up. Say, meet at the Shell Paremata (or is it Caltex) attached to a MacDonalds at about 8am.

ps- sorry I didn't come upstairs WT. Thursday night was ...different!

A guy I used to work with is now at the Traffic Division of the Police up the top of Cuba Street - he checks out speed camera photos for validity - he said to me one day that he saw a similar bike to mine in a photo on Hutt Mway, but the guy had black jeans not blue - ahem - my blue jeans were in the wash that day......
Photo got binned as unable to identify :moon: - wonder if it will be a matter of time before the LTSA require a number on the front, painted, sticker or something of the sort.

Interesting... my last ride day at Eastern Creek a MV lunched an engine coming down the main straight and was written off when rider bailed out. Never did hear the reason for the engine "expiring", but it might be worth a little more investigation from MV owners. And it's also worth noting that Dario Franchitti broke his back 'cause his MV lunched it's engine too :-(

I've heard that they have very rich fuel mapping, your dealer may be able to download a leaner map.

I had my Brutale on the Dyno at it's first service. It's not running rich by all accounts. I don't know what MV are doing given the motors are virtually the same but there is a huge difference between the Brutale and F4 fuel economy (25mpg vs 40mpg).
I've heard MV have released in Europe different fuel maps for the Brutale but don't know from anyone that's tried it out yet.

Now that is a serious difference and all that gas has to be going somewhere and it won't just be getting used pushing the more upright bike through the air. From what I remember of your dyno run it was putting out good power so maybe nothing to worry about. Can you ask the boss for a raise to pay for the gas, especially now its going up so steeply in price.

I was on the Exxon Valdeez - (the GS1100- so named for the size and the oil leaks) heading to the Cold Duck, and just happened to leave the Caltex Rimutaka before the exotica. So I was in front up the kaitoke dirt track, but quickly left behind once the road returned to normal (I was not worthy, I was not worthy...)

The SP-1's apparently run very rich standard - I heard it was to keep the noise down for the road test. I think I am getting about 10% more fuel economy over the standard map since fitting a power commander and much leaner map (and 10 more HP)
Don't real lean engines run the risk of damage, (not rich) or are both extremes just as bad as the other ?

Yer I finally buy a bike that I can tour on easily (the f4 didn't quite count there!) and the tank range is a freakin joke. The f4 could do 300k on a full tank (21 litres) touring still having some fun. The Brutale would be lucky to do 200k on it's 19 litres. The 1000 miler is going to be interesting this year. I've been joking that I might carry a 10 litre petrol can with me.
Can't ask the boss for a raise, being a contractor I agreed on my hourly rate up front and it don't change unless I get pushy in 6 months time when my contract rolls over.

One guy in the UK has fitted the power commander, got a 14% improvement in economy so I think it went up to 31mpg for him. He worked out how many k's he'd have to do for the PC to pay for itself and it was A LOT!!

Ouch!! That's a pretty shitty thing to have happen. I know a few motors have given up but not that many, Peter from Auck blew his F4 he was racing at a pratice session at Puke in 2003 I think.
The problem with a bike like the MV is that everyone seems to remember stories about them, you could destory 10 R1's on the Taka's but bin one MV and everyone knows about it.
Although I doubt MV's production line is as well run as the Jap companies they seem to have things sorted now. MV had to learn fast whereas most other companies have gone through that painful period years ago.

Yep, Peter's F4 expired on the back straight of Pukekohe (I think it was December 2002) in the first couple of laps of practice for the Nationals. Conrod through the casing. The bike had been raced for many meetings with no problems whatsover, in fact he won the B Grade class of the Suzuki Series on it. MV came to the party and he got a very good deal on a new engine.
Matt's right, you don't tend to hear the stories about the "common" bikes (no offence meant to anyone with that comment - apologies in advance if I have offended).

The ZX10R is Kerry McDonald's - a really nice chap, he's had heaps of bikes (including a Blackbird) but really loves his Kawasakis. Plus he's got green Kawasaki leathers, so the bike matches them.
Z1000 was probably Russ Allen's. If not him, probably Nick from Motorad (though Nick was probably at work).
