Passed the Learners today and had my brother in law meet me at Wellington Motor Cycles to get fitted out for all the right protective gear and of course getting the delivered.

From here on in it is concentrate, practise, concentrate, practice, head and eyes up and relax. I am fortunate as I will be a recreation rider with plenty of time to practise in the middle of the day through the week and weekends.

Congrats! Have fun riding and come along to a ride when you feel comfortable. The GN is an excellent bike to learn the basics on, try commuting on it asap and you'll be surprised how your riding improves in no time!

Welcome buckbuck. Good on yer for the pass. Yeah as much as I pan GN's they are a good learner bike with plenty of character. Your also down the road from a few good learning roads in Upper Hutt.

PM if ya wanna go for a ride sometime. I can also recommend the TCWNR ride, good people, cruisy pace and a feed afterwards.

See ya on the blacktop fella.

Thanks Insanity Rules and T.I.E, I am really looking forward to getting in all the practice through the middle of the day each day during the week through winter and spreading my wings in spring to venture out further a field and join in some rides. On the weekends brother in law offered to ride my bike out to some quiet spots and he will sit in the car while i practise for an hour or so.

The Golf November Two Five Zero will be delivered this evening, and with this wet weather at the moment I will spend a lot of time this weekend sitting in the garage doing what my brother and I have done the last 2 years every other Sunday evening - looking at his bike Z750.

You know it was the almost 2yrs of just looking that eventually got me to take the plunge to do the Learners and Basic Handling Skills, like I said in another post, didn't want to rush into it too fast. Now with my getting out there and building up skills and confidence, that too will be taken at a good and steady pace. Look forward to catching up with you all in the Spring.

The new GN250 was delivered in Stokes Vegas tonight at 1721hrs by Wellington Motor Cycle Centre.

Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.

That's one small step for BuckBuck but one giant leap for a whole lot of pleasure.

Look forward to catching up with you all when I build up my skills and confidence.

Well done on getting your L's.
Best 3 pieces of advice I was given (and still follow)
1.Ride
2.Listen and lean
3.Ride some more.

Enjoy and stay upright.:ride:

Where has twelve months gone:

Suzuki GN250: 14,000km
Honda VLX 600 Shadow: 1000km
Suzuki V Strom: 3500km

Looking back through several threads, the most striking thing is the changing season. Getting my first bike and learning to ride through winter, as well as disciplining myself to do the first 1000km in Stokes Valley before venturing out further a field I look back on now and am very pleased I set the challenge for myself.

To all the kiwibikers that I have met over the last year, thank you for your support, humour, and a damn good time out there riding. I look forward to many more kilometres, and for the moment reckon it will be 11am to 2.30pm generally for the next few months.

And to all new riders out there, seek out a mentor to review your riding progress during your intial months.

And where has BuckBuck gone? We've missed you over the last few weeks on sundays and charity rides. We hoped you hadn't got jaded and bored with it all (fat chance I'm sure)

Nice work, Guy. Time really drags during that first year. Everything is so big and so intense. But like you, I'm really glad that I made that first step onto motorbikes. A life-defining moment?

After the three consecutive Sundays in April riding, I took some time out to ride with my brother in law and friend on some earlier morning rides. Sadly we have also had a bereavement in the family.

Something tells me I got too much time on my hands, and my long term goals to ride the South Island over the next 5 years bit by bit may kick off sooner rather than later. [I am going to float this later - next daylight saving changeover I'm thinking ...a weekend ferry and run down to Greymouth and back....]

I rode the GN250 into town yesterday for the new owner, and after six weeks it is amazing I look back on that wee bike and marvel it certainly is a good begginer's bike. Today I road out to Staglands on the V Strom, took my time and really appreciated the size of the bike, compared to the GN. The ride was somewhat an anniversary ride for me since getting my Learners last May, and also a tribute ride, last time I was out there was my last ride with Uncle B.

Heads Up and Enjoy

Well done on the anniversary BB#1. That Greymouth idea sounds pretty good!

Here's to the next 12 months.

*Sigh* You got your learners four months after I got my learners. I got my restricted as soon as I was eligable to sit it. Now you have your full and a bigger bike, and get to move on with your biking life. I'm still stuck on my restricted, and am not allowed to go and sit my full until November - when I turn 25. Not that I know you or how you ride, but I'd wager I'm no less competant on a bike, even though I don't ride a GN.... but because I'm under 25 (albiet a matter of months) I have to spend twice as long mucking around waiting... waiting... waiting.... to be allowed to sit my full licence and finally upgrade my bike. The NZ's been a great machine and I've learnt a lot from riding it... but I feel that I've learned the limits of the machine (and rider) well, and I'm ready to continue my learning on a larger machine. But I must wait longer. I hate being marginalised for being under 25 - I've never had an accident.

Still, it's good to hear that you've enjoyed your first 12 months. Great work mate, enjoy the next 12 :)
