Loving their little Zen biker at the top of the first page.

Not loving the hard to read font. (Or is that just my computer?)

Very interesting. But it needs more equations. Still reckon it's posing , but, Hailwood never bothered, nor did Ago. Or Frith or Woods.

Why not just bend down and put your knee down on the ground, what are you a cripple? :nya:

Far from it, (posing) when on the track I go into a corner with the tyres right on the limit of traction, everything feels a little loose and hairy, once the knee is down it has the effect of locking everything in place, a little like a out-rigger on a canoe. It has a stabilizing effect. When I'm really on it I also lever the bike off my knee to get it on to a fatter part of the tyre to gain more traction. I've also saved the frount end propping the bike up off my knee as well.

I'm sure the reason the racing greats of old did not do it, is they simply never thought to.

On the road, I have a totally different style and hardly ever scrape my knee, unless I need to itch it or somthing.

Think it is faster that interviews the one who started the whole thing off in gp, just put tape round his knees in the start

My understanding that Kenny Roberts started to do it 1st, at least properly. He initially duct taped squashed coke cans to his knees!

Just duct tape is horrendous, your knee grabs at the road and the bike attempts to pivot on it, I know!

I was highly pissed years ago when racing leathers used to make the cops hyperventilate at the sight of you, I used to wear smart casual pants over my leathers (with Jacket) I put my knee down by accident and was immediately awarded a bloody great hole in said pants :angry2:

For those having trouble reading the font on the "KneeDown" documents as viewed on-line, they are JPEG images, so are "resized" to fit your screen. To see them "full size" go to the bottom right hand corner of the document/image you have opened and when the little square with the arrows pointing out shows there, left click on it (this makes any on-line image go to full size, rather than just ta fit ya screen). You should be able ta read it then.

Yes Kenny Roberts was the first rider to really develope the style - but even he says he saw other people doing it,or at least parts of it,he just put the whole thing together and made it work.So it was going to happen anyway,it just needed someone with all the pieces of the puzzle.I was riding that bike in my avatar in 1973,and would drop a cheek off the seat and point my knee into the turn...I had seen no one do this,I just found it helped pull the heavy slow steering bike down into the turn.Sometimes the time is right and the whole world changes overnight.

From the last page of text, probably the greatest point of all...

OK I get it now. I've been trying to corner faster for quite a while now and now I see the geometry properly it makes sense.
